Xbox Live games coming to iOS and Android

Following the release of Kinectimals on iOS, there have been some rumours that other Xbox Live games are to be ported to iOS and Android, Microsoft have now officially announced that the rumours are true. InsideMobileApps have received the following statement from a Microsoft spokesperson…

“while the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.”

While their decision may anger some Windows Phone users, what is clear is not ALL Xbox Live titles will be ported, there will no doubt be an exclusivity period and theres also speculation about the inclusion of achievements on the other platforms. I personally didn’t buy my Windows Phone JUST for Xbox Live but it was a consideration in my decision.

Has Microsoft just shot itself in the foot? or have they widened their games to a larger audience? Will sales of Windows Phones be affected if they offer achievements on all platforms? What do you think?

It’s a pretty jacked up move on Microsoft’s part. My Windows Phone was the envy of my son who is just a wee too young to have a phone nut was looking forward to having mine or a Windows Phone of his own. Then he downloaded the free XBox hub on his iPod. See dad just like your phone, and can also get those same games dad. So much for having an exclusive feature on my phone. Of course Microsoft never, for some inexplicable reason, promoted the Xbox integration as part of the WP7 OS. I personally think this is a horrible business move.

  The only conclusion we can come to is that your son is more mature than you… Don’t take it too personally, but I never really understood why would anyone be proud for having an exclusive feature on their device. I mean, it’s not like you got a hand-made present from Ghandi! It’s just an item out of a series. And when a company says that a certain product would be exclusively available for a certain device, it’s not a favor to you for your loyalty. Instead, it’s a marketing tool used to sell more devices. If their forecast is not met, and they don’t sell like they thought, they wait a little and then they say “well, let’s give it to other platforms as well”. NOBODY cares if “only X users” have access to “Y product”. Not companies (they only care about numbers and $$), and not other people (at least the ones who have a life and know their priorities). So let it be! Stop complaining about company strategies and be aware that they’re only in for the cash, not for you!

Come on Microsoft, seriously! U don’t see android or IOS porting stuff that’s exclusive to their phone over to wp7. At the end of the day Xbox live is a selling point for wp7, Xbox 360 id not struggling for sales nor is Xbox live title so why they need to port stuff over. You’re just asking people to not bother with wp7 because they can get it all on their current os and still have exclusives. [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]

Here is my thought on this :

they will release a few games on to their platforms as well but will be keeping some of the AAA ( perhaps not the right term for a mobile game ) titles exclusive to windows phone ( speaking about AAA titles I wonder why its taking them so long to release them for Windows Phone , only a handful like Kinectimals , Fable coin gold , etc has been released thus far )

The games that are released on to other platform could be used to promote windows phone ( but will they ?? only time will tell )

If they offered achievements on iOS and Android, then theres one WP7 exclusive gone, sales will undoubtedly plummet,

It was basically the deciding factor on my omnia7

of course not mentioning the UI, office and ease of use.

if android had achievements, i would no doubt have a Samsung Galaxy S2

Shows their lack of faith in their own OS. Some will argue it only helps their brand, but it only helps the Microsoft brand, not the Windows Phone brand. It actually hurts it. I agree, I’ll stick with Windows Phone, just won’t champion it or Microsoft anymore. Won’t be showing off my phone, bragging about it, nor suggesting Windows Phone to people anymore.
