wp7applist is a nice site to browse the Windows Phone Marketplace while on your PC ( they also provide us the handy Microsoft Tags for us to scan and get the app delivered to the phone ), but why would you want an an app to browse the apps on your phone , when there is an official WP7 Marketplace app ? Well read on to find out :)

Disclosure : wp7applist.com is a partner on both this and our Windows Phone Games Site. The review represent my honest opinion of the app.

wp7applist app is pretty much an extension to your stock marketplace, most of the features are what you expect to see in the marketplace app but there are a few features in there that allows users to get a bit more info out of the marketplace than the official app. When you launch the app there is a spotlight section which is a list of apps promoted by the site. Slide across and you will come in to the discovery page where you can see the apps categorized into

  • all recently changed app
  • just released
  • app updates
  • deals and price drops
  • apps gone free

Info about just released apps are easily available from the official app, you also get notification about app updates you care about ( a.k.a the ones you installed ) from the official app so those are not something that you need wp7applist app for but if you are a deal hunter and are always looking for deals and price drops for apps then you will love the wp7applist app. The deals and price drops section and apps gone free offered by the wp7applist App will show you the apps that has recently gone on sale or have been updated to be a free app, you will not find this info from the official app.

Next you have the most popular section which lists all the main categories in the marketplace and will show the logo for the game/app that has got the top position. drilling down will give you list of apps sorted by popularity, the one thing that is different from the official app is that you will also be given the overall ranking score for each app. Drilling down to the details of each app gives all the usual info from the official app along with the ranking data from the overall and individual category and a handy history page which will show date and version number from all past updates. ( it would have been great if there was a change log that was associated with each update that we could see, unfortunately I don’t think zune keeps a record ot that so the app is not able to provide that :( ) . There is a search feature that will allow you to search for apps similar to the official app and a select review of apps that are available from the website. The app does offer users the ability to use a live tile, which which update the stats ( from what I understand ) every 24 hrs. This will show the user the total number of apps, the number of updates, and new releases from the previous day.

Final thoughts : wp7applist App is great if you like to keep an eye out on the marketplace stats, price drops and free apps. I have a few suggestion to Luigi who has already taken in to account one of my earlier suggestion ( thanks mate :) ) which will allow users to block crAPP developers so the results will hide these developers apps / games. One other suggestion is to allow users to nominate apps they would like to track so that they can get a notification when there is a price drop / when it goes free :) , that would make the apps a must have to a lot more users :)
