Wob What's on Brand App for Windows Phone

Saijo George

WOB ( What’s on Brand ) App for Windows Phone is a way for fanbois to keep tabs on their favorite brands. Brand is a very powerful tool in marketing and anyone can tell you how difficult it is to create a positive brand association with users. The brand be it a sign, symbol , logo or text resides within the hearts and minds of customers when they think about a product ( someone even made a game based on brands ) , so to create a positive attitude towards a brand is usually whey high on the marketers checklist. Today we will take a look at an app on windows phone that is all about Brands.

Fanbois will love this , now you can stalk your favorite brands on multiple social networks from a single app… but the app needs some serious work in the UI department

With WOB you can follow your favorite sports team, a TV series you like, celebrities and what not. The app also has a companion site at What’s on Brand and will soon have an iphone version of the app. So this is yet another app that released a client on Windows Phone first. When you launch the app you will see some recommendations which I assume are randomly generated but once you start following certain brands I expected to see more personalized suggestions but the results were not that promising ( this might change over time ).

On the main screen you get an overview of the number of brands you are following and the number of new WOB’s ( read messages from the brands you follow ) since you last checked the app along with a message which will ask you to rate the app or give you a suggestion for a brand to follow. Clicking on the main message takes you to the main section of the app where you can see an over view of all the brands you follow or get recommendation of new brands to follow. Clicking on these will take you to that particular brands WOB page from where you can follow the brand, check out their website and read the latest messages from them, here you are able to flick through the messages like/dislike , favorite it or share it on social networks.

Obviously there are brands missing in here , which was expected but I did expect to see Microsoft / Windows Phone , the absence of which were disappointing. Thankfully the app offers you a way to suggest missing brands. What would be cool is if the missing page offers you a button to suggest the brand to the developers. Feature-wise the app does not disappoint but I would also like to see some way in which users could connect with other users who share a similar passion in brands but when it comes to the UI the app is a big letdown. After seeing some great apps using metro design in an elegant way anything that looks like this is an instant turn-off. Hopefully they will revise the UI and come up with something good. I am thinking of letting Yanko have a crack at it and push out something in our Concept Series for Windows Phone

UPDATE : the Live Tile of the app is used to notify brands recently added in to their network.

It does not have that WOW factor and could prove useful if you are a fanboi and want to follow every word your brand puts out on social media outlets.
