Windows Phone Marketplace can remotely wipe app licenses

Windows Phone Kill switch

Windows Phone Kill switch

Apparently Windows Phone Marketplace will be able to remotely revoke licenses remotely. Apps / Devs / Users simply aren’t in control of the app license; the user controls installation and removal while the Marketplace ensures that the license is valid. Well this sort of this is not new , I am not sure of Android but the kill switch from Apple can remotely wipe the app from the users device and now Windows Phone 7 can do it as well. Of course Microsoft will not sit and delete random app license from Windows Phone 7 Series devices but this may be cause for concern for some users. Does this bother you ?. Personally I feel once I buy the device I should be able to add any bloody app I want and not worry about a remote wipe from Microsoft.

I hate the whole ‘Big Brother’ nonsense as much as the next person but I guess this feature has its purpose. What that purpose is I don’t know but I am sure it’s not to screw you :)

If the Marketplace deletes a malicious app i get it but according to this report the app revokes the license for an app and supposedly the apps can only be installed via the Marketplace.. why would they want to revoke the license for an app they already approved ???

i buy the phone, the phone is mine, the software on the phone is mine, no matter any idiotic copyright/control claim from M$: they make me pay the phone, they make me pay the bloody sw license, i do with the phone and with the software whatever i want. why should i pay for something that is not mine?

I agree with you lot. I pay for the Phone so I get to decide what goes on NOT Microsoft.
