Windows Phone 7 – Cons

Found an interesting article over at WMPU outlining the flaws with the OS.

  • No true multi-tasking, except for special hub apps like Pandora.
  • Marketplace is the only way to install apps, except for developers, beta versions and enterprise. ( that was the case with the iPhone too, but ever heard of jail-breaking )
  • No removable storage. ( device comes with 8GM min internal storage )
  • No file system – apps can only access their own directory. ( No file explorer app that will allows the user to go through the files on the device )
  • No USB drive mode.
  • No replacement of the default apps – while Opera will be allowed, it could not be the default browser.
  • No 3rd party shells
  • No native code
  • No peer to peer gaming. ( well not during launch at least )

How many of these are deal breakers ? What is the single one reason for you to stay away from WP7 or dont you really care about all these ?

Update ( 17/03/10 ) :
Well we wont have Copy Paste in WP7

By removing the benefits of winmo over other OSs they are largely recreating the OSs that already exist but year(s) behind the others in application development

Here is an easy solution

Step 1 :Go to an Apple Store
Step 2 : buy an iPhone
Step 3 : Problem solved

I have to say i agree with Steve Jobs. Most of the above was the reason i didn’t buy the iphone in the first place. I love the flexibility of the WM OS. But if all these cons are true then you might aswell buy an iphone. they got more apps and games. and will be updating the iphone hardware at some point to compete with the faster devices running windows mobile at the moment. I really hope they change there mind otherwise it looks like Micorsoft (or atleast the WM7 department) will lose a large chunk of customers and profit. Or atleast build another without the limitations. Surely Microsoft aren’t going to alienate the market that is againt the iphone at the moment. Is there anyway we could tell them to change and not become so like the iphone OS that me and so many others don’t like the limitations of?

Absolute rubbish!! MS may be making a very nice user experience for the iPhone generation but they are also specifying a product that is not significantly better than the current iPhone… & they are making us wait months for this after the iPhone 4 comes out!

I hope this downgrade (no external memory cards, limited multitasking, locking to Marketplace & locking default apps) is smoke & mirrors to put competitors off the trail… unfortunately I doubt it!

I raved about WinPho7S when I first saw it… now I am holding my head in my hands.

so in other words, to improve their phone, they adopted all the WEAKNESSES of the iphone, but added an improved social hub?

Guys, have you seen the way people look at you when you say WinMo is better???

I mean we might have some “capabilities” that the iphone doesn’t but why then does everyone have an iphone? Because it works and it works nicely. Winmo often doesnt work, bugs out, crashes, or is strangely slow for unknown reasons.

This has some really cool technology, and yes they will need all new apps, but app dev looks like a sinch, and the os looks alot more solid. With the way this thing looks in the videos, Im sold. Looks pretty sweet, and I’m sure anyone looking over your shoulder will think the same, regardless of MMS or sdcard lol.

I agree with all of you except Poodz Mando. Almost all of these are deal breakers. WP7 isn’t made for WinMo enthusiasts but for the same people that buy iPhones. But the iPhone fans are not gonna buy it either as it isn’t made by Apple. I now know that my TouchPro is my last WinMo phone. I will keep it as long as I can but when it’s really outdated I’ll have to change to Android, Meego or WebOS (I don’t know yet).

Dell streak is my next device after my HTC X7501. WM7 is chasing me away 1 blow after another!! If I really need a crap-phone..Iphone is a much better crap-phone now..it seems.

All deal-breakers. Particularly; copy/paste, and no file system, and no non-certified apps.
Who is m$ trying to please?! As was said, the iPhonhe fans won’t buy m$ (@ Poods, they don’t buy apple cuz it’s good, they do so because it’s iconic, trendy).
I feel embarrassed to have suppoertd m$, now that they turn their backs on us.

Looks my Diamond wil be my last WinMo-m on ahead to Android, I guess.

I’m not going to tell you why winmo is better, but its all about one little program and I’m not going to tell you what cause I don’t want to jinx it.
