Here is the latest WM7 rumor that is floating around. Looks like someone has tipped off WMExperts with some rather interesting news regarding WM7.
Here is a short summary of what they are saying
- Windows Mobile 7 might be called just Seven ( unlikely )
- Business edition and Media edition ( very much possible )
As if the fragmentation in WM is not enough we are going to see WM6.5 and WM7 coexist in the market and now WM7 will be coming out in 2 flavors. Business edition and Media edition. As the name suggests WM7 Business edition will be targeted towards business users and will focus less on multimedia but will have advance business features like the ability to sync “to the cloud” with multiple devices, possibly multiple exchange account sync. It is also likely that OEM UI ( LG’s Sclass, HTC’s Sense, etc ) will cover up the home screen in the Business edition of Windows mobile 7. This stripped down version is what the HD2 might end up getting and will be less resource intensive and gives the OEMs more flexibility on customization.
Now on to what we all really want to see ” Windows Phone Seven Media Edition “. So what is under the hood for this beast. This version is not yet completed and night only make it to the market in 2011. But certain aspects of the OS might get demoed at MWC 2011.
The plan for this version on release is to have support for
- Silverlight
- Mediaroom
- XBox Live Games
- Facebook and Twtter interfaces (similar to Xbox)
- Zune Music integration
- Windows Sensor and Location Platform: ‘Orion’
What is Orion for Windows Mobile ?
“Orion” is a cloud-based assisted GPS system that is supposed to dramatically increase initial location-lock performance. This will guarantee rapid GPS performance across all future Seven devices, regardless of carrier support (currently, aGPS is dependent on individual carrier implementation).
Interesting Fact: Orion already is a part of Windows 7 on PC as a part of the Windows Sensor and Location Platform initiative.
How will WM7 Home interface look like ( Business Edition )
“Think TouchFLO (slider tabs) meeting up with a stock SPB Shell (lots of information on multiple screen) mixed with a very well integrated message and app launcher — almost a ‘fun’ BlackBerry interface. Seems like the stock shell is more like a really good BB theme than iPhone or Android.”
NOTE : HTC HD2 reportedly runs Seven Business edition with “minimal lag” at this very early stage of porting.
Our Take : We believe this is the best rumor we have heard thus far. We get Windows Mobile 7 Business edition in 2010 we play around with it and get used to what WM7 has to offer and then we get WM7 Media edition which will pack a lot more punch. I am quite excited to see how things go down at MWC 2010. Hopefully the WM7 presentation wont be behind closed doors. Love to hear what you guys think about this ?

So this report comes out and claims OEM shells but then the rumor today says no multi-tasking? How are they supposed to run a shell like Manila w/o multi-tasking?
These STUPID rumors are getting contradictory.
I feel the multi tasking one might not be true. Most aspect of these seems to be believable .. at least to me it does :)
Agreed, multitasking seems a bit suspect but the other technologies listed seem relevant. Multitasking has always been a feature on WM, how are they going to run all those business apps without it? Doesn't make sense, why do away with a crucial feature?
What would be the point of going with 1gb ram and multicore cpu if no multitasking?
