Is that picture real? Those animals just let you walk right up to them and give them a drink from a water bottle?
Sorry to hear about the fires. Living in Southern California, I have much sympathy.
Koalas will try to avoid contact if possible but this one was injured and in pain. Also, they don’t drink water directly, they get nourishment from the leaves they eat. It was surprising that koala drank lots of water. Koala usually stay in trees and don’t like to walk. Since they don’t run and move very slowly on the ground, it is likely many may have perished in the fire. The destruction to life both human and animal caused by this bushfire has been so devastating.
