The surface tension is rising!
I know the title doesn’t really make sense, but what you should hopefully get from it is that we are getting closer to Microsoft releasing their new Windows RT tablet : the Surface RT.
Unlike its big brother, the Surface RT is built using a ARM processor, which is more akin to those used in your mobile phone. Regular Windows cannot run on ARM chips, so they have introduced Windows RT, which cannot run regular desktop programs written for x64 processors, meaning it can only run new Metro / Windows 8 / Modern apps & a couple of specially made desktop programs (such as Office 2013).
Whilst I personally feel that this will cause confusion with customers buying a Windows tablet which cannot run Windows programs, the Surface RT is still a pretty sexy device & I feel that once it’s release is upon us, more developers will jump on the bandwagon & relieve the tensions which will inevitably arise around the small number of apps available in the marketplace so far.
Microsoft uploaded a quirky advert this morning (which reminds me of high school musical), showing off the satisfying ‘click’ sound produced when attaching the keyboard onto the tablet.
Now, on top of this, TheVerge have posted an article saying the prices of the Surface RT showed up on the Microsoft store for a little while, before going dark again:
Taking both of these in mind, its obvious that the Surface with Windows RT is not far from launch!
