For youtube on windows phone MetroTube and SuperTube were the front runners , but with MetroTube being discontinued, SuperTube we going to be the default choice. But now it looks like the devs plan to release a new verison under a new name Youtube Pro, it looks like the new version goes for a metro look. This new version will be a paid version and the trail will be a full featured version with ads. I have reached out to the developer to find out if the new app will just replace the old SuperTube app. I don’t suppose users will be very happy if they have to re-Buy the new version to have an ad free experience.
Now that we have tackled how to take screenshots on windows phone lets get on to how to upload a video on to youtube. The app is called Social Camera it allows you to upload videos to Youtube and Skydrive ( which is a core feature of Windows Phone so you do not particularly need this app for that ). When you launch the app you have to enter your youtube and skydrive credentials , you also have a few settings like asking the app to upload under the lock screen, notify you via toast / voice notification once the upload is complete.
SuperTube is a Windows Phone app that enables you to play and download YouTube videos in HQ and HD by 3G or WiFi on to your Windows Phone. Now with the new update you can upload videos to Youtube. The developers recommends un-installing the previous version and then installing the new version.
1 Record videos and upload it to YouTube (Resume broken uploads support)
2 Choose and order the sections in the main page
3 Select channel to push notification
4 Add playlist, inbox, my video
5 Background uploads and downloads
6 Loading list more quickly
7 Inbox push notification
8 Fast App Switching (FAS)
Today we take a quick look at the BETA 3.0 version of LazyTube , a premium youtube app for Windows Phone. Plz note this version is not yet released and is expected to hit the marketplace around mid-November. LazyTube brings a new look along with all the goodness of mango like Fast app switching, ability to pin a user to the start screen ( this is a live tile and will update and tell you if there are new uploads by that user ) etc. The developer also plans to run a series of videos on ” What’s New ” you can keep an eye out for those on youtube and follow them on twitter.
Is Goggle showing some love to Windows Phone ? Not likely but they have apparently updated the Mobile Youtube site and it seems to work well on Windows Phone. Truth be told I hardly use the mobile site with some awesome youtube apps like LazyTube and SuperTube, I am told HTC got a decent youtube app as well, but the Microsoft youtube app is kinda lame. So it’s good to know ( via WMPU ) that the mobile version has got a facelift and is worth looking at.
Update : kevgallacher has pointed out in the comments section that this mighty not work on Pre-Mango builds.
What app do you guys use for Youtube on Windows Phone ?
LazyTube has recently been updated to version 2.5 which should fix the recent issue with high quality streaming of youtube videos. This version also has the new volume slider in the playback player and the ability to optionally sync video history with the ‘Music & Video’ hub.
- Live tile push notifications (up to 3 subscriptions)
- Volume slider on video playback player for fine tuning
- Option to not sync video history with Music and Video hub
The dev has also informed us that v3.0 is in the works and will be ready for Mango, Both the free and paid versions will be rolled to ’3.0′ which will take advantage of a new interface, some new exciting features.
