Microsoft have bought out a new advert, in their on-going effort to promote WindowsPhone7. Here are several things I like about this it:
It shows a real feature; displaying your 3D avatar in the X-Box Live Extras app.
It shows a real WP7 game, Need for Speed : undercover.
It includes some humour thanks to a life-size avatar doing his “sexy dance”.
It moves away from the ‘glance n’ go’ style they had been working with, which might give the wrong impression about WP7 & shows that its actually a fun platform.
Then there is the line ”You’re an avatar dan.” Which I think Ill be quoting to many of my friends who haven’t a clue what I’m on about.
The last thing I really like is that they have made a model of the phone they use in all of their advertising, now who else out there would join me in saying they would be more than happy with a phone like that? Its THE windows phone; simple, elegant & sexy.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the advert here:
So, what do you all think of this new offering from Microsoft’s marketing department? Let us know what you’re thinking by putting a comment below!
Remember the XBox Live Live chat event with Major Nelson, there was such a huge demand for it their servers crashed ( so anyone still think one one cares about xBox Live on WP7 ??? ), but they have uploaded the video from the event and Here are the key point that was discussed.. ( kudos to MobilityDigest via WMPU )
All props purchased on the game console appears and are available on the phone.
Change your avatar on the go.

They emphasized that the first wave of games announced is just that-the first wave! More will be announced between now and launch.

If you answer an incoming call, the game pauses and you return to it immediately after the call ends.

Developers have access to avatars to produce unique experiences. Basically developers can make avatars used in games.

As we know WP7 will have xBox Live and we can keep tabs on our friends but what if you wnat to check the gamer tag of some random player ? Does xBox hub offer this functionality ? Dont worry if it doesn’t rogueplanetoid is working on a WP7 Gamer Card app called GameCardr. Check it out on his website gamecardr.com.
Here is something new that we might see a lot on WP7 , XBox and other Microsoft technology , It looks like Chevrolet is launching a multi-screen advertising campaign with Microsoft. So we will be seeing a WP7 App for the Chevrolet Volt which will give you wallpapers and Videos about the car along with info on Chevrolet Volt related events near you ?? got me thinking about the iAds Toy Story app that Steve demoed a while ago… is this an App or an Ad ? With the xBox 360 the ads are more integrated within the game. The volt will be a playable car on Joy Ride, a controller free racing game on xBox 360 Kinect . From the video it will also make its appearance on MSN auto and Surface ??
I want to know one thing can I remove the app from WP7 if I don’t use it ?
Aura is a new Microsoft-sponsored project at the Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center. Think of it as a cross between avatars and twitter. A prototype of the project is said to be demoed at E3 in June. According to istartedsomething.com
The project which spans across XBOX 360 and Windows Phone 7 leverages users’ personalized 3D avatars to create virtual scenes that reflect their current status through graphics rather than text. For example, in the video there are avatars seen golfing, DJing, dancing, rocking out and riding an airplane (quite literally) with a cityscape background to indicate what they’re doing and where..
If you though Gamer Tag and Avatar were the only stuff you can do on your Windows Phone 7 Series XBox Hib you are so wrong. In a recent TechEd Middle East event, Microsoft’s Eric Rudder demonstrated what we can expect from xBox on 3 Screen + Cloud. Rudder’s demo showed the Indiana Jones game being played on all 3 devices. The Windows Phone 7 Series device made use of the accelerometer to control the movement and a tap on the screen to jump.
We have talked about xBox and Windows Mobile the idea was announced as early as 2006 ( at E3 if I am not wrong ). The idea was to extend the Xbox Live concept to Windows Mobile and even Java-enabled phones.
xBox windows Mobile gameCard
They showed some early screenshots / demo of the project back in 2006 ( It was then called Live Anywhere ). The idea was Whether you’re at your PC or on the move with a mobile, you would be able to track your gamer tag, message friends, purchase content for that device or set it to download to another device, and compare rankings with your buddies on various gaming titles. This was exciting in 2006 but now since Microsoft dropped the ball on that there are some 3rd party Apps on Windows Mobile that tries to bring these features ( mind you they are not as feature rich as what Live Anywhere could have been ) . They are Mobile GamerTag and WM Live 0.8 beta
xBox Windows Mobile Friends list
But with the buzz around the new Job posting looking to Integrate xBox and WM I hope it is some thing which allows uses to challenge other WM users for online battle in some new line of WM7 games that integrates multiplayer gameplay with friends ( kind of like what Eliminate Pro does for the iPhone with push notifications , imagine something like HALO on the WM7 devices .. that would be so cool )
Mobile GamerTag v2.3 is a windows mobile freeware that brings the xBox Game Tags on to your Windows Mobile. With the latest update the app now supports QVGA devices.
