It’s been a while since my last posting. Things have gotten pretty busy for me over the last six weeks contracting with a new company and I don’t have as much time to devote to writing. Although, I will try my best to write more often when I have something interesting to share.
I wanted to share my thoughts on Windows Phone 8 and what I think can be improved with the UI. Especially the home screen. Let me just say that I am still using 7.8 (yes, I know! Soon, real soon) I have been enjoying the “newish” look for the most part. However, there are some things about the home screen that bothers me.

Recently my Lumia 920 froze and became unresponsive, while I was playing Galactic Reign. The phone became completely unresponsive, the Windows key, the back button nor the display would respond to my commands. I could not even turn the device off by clicking and holding the power button. I tried plugging the device to a power outlet and to my computer , they had no effect. Now since we cant remove the battery the only other choice I had was to let the battery run dry. I am not sure if any of you have seen a similar issue with your Nokia Lumia 920 , or any other Windows Phone device.
When you want to check your internet speed Speedtest.net is by far the best option you have and now they have an official app on Windows Phone that lets you do exactly that. SpeedTest.net Windows Phone App is great for benchmarking the speed of your mobile network or WiFi to find the average download and upload speed. The app has some coll features like history of previous tests ability to test you upload , download and ping speeds, ability to share your result on social networks and more.

The app comes with many different templates and you can pick one and the app will automatically change the wallpaper with new friends from time to time. You can change the refresh time interval and the app will pull up images of your contacts and put up a pretty collage of your friends. So if you are not a fan of the traditional Windows Phone Wallpapers and want to have an app that will automatically update your lock screen.
The latest updates adds some new features like adjustable refresh time interval , only allow specific contacts to be used in the collage, etc. Currently the app only works on Windows Phone 8.
At least that is how it looks like based on a new report by Kantar Worldpanel. The decline can be attributed to several reasons and it’s not a direct correlation of iPhone users shifting to Windows Phone.

Todd Brix, Senior Director, Windows Phone Apps Team tweeted recently that not only have app downloads doubled but developer revenue has also seen a similar increase after Windows phone 8 has been released. This augurs well not only for the OS but also for developers and users on the fledgling platform.

You have to admit that this verdict has to be spot on. Even if you ARE an apple fanboy/girl. This comes straight from a self professed apple fangirl after having used the WP8 Lumia 920 for 10 days :)
