Windows Phone 8: What Would You Change Visually?

It’s been a while since my last posting. Things have gotten pretty busy for me over the last six weeks contracting with a new company and I don’t have as much time to devote to writing. Although, I will try my best to write more often when I have something interesting to share.
I wanted to share my thoughts on Windows Phone 8 and what I think can be improved with the UI. Especially the home screen. Let me just say that I am still using 7.8 (yes, I know! Soon, real soon) I have been enjoying the “newish” look for the most part. However, there are some things about the home screen that bothers me.

How to Soft Reset Windows Phone Lumia 920 [ Video ]

Recently my Lumia 920 froze and became unresponsive, while I was playing Galactic Reign. The phone became completely unresponsive, the Windows key, the back button nor the display would respond to my commands. I could not even turn the device off by clicking and holding the power button. I tried plugging the device to a power outlet and to my computer , they had no effect. Now since we cant remove the battery the only other choice I had was to let the battery run dry. I am not sure if any of you have seen a similar issue with your Nokia Lumia 920 , or any other Windows Phone device.

SpeedTest.net Windows Phone App is great for benchmarking the speed of your mobile network or WiFi to find the average download and upload speed. The app has some coll features like history of previous tests ability to test you upload , download and ping speeds, ability to share your result on social networks and more.

Hello Friends : your friends on your lockscreen

The app comes with many different templates and you can pick one and the app will automatically change the wallpaper with new friends from time to time. You can change the refresh time interval and the app will pull up images of your contacts and put up a pretty collage of your friends. So if you are not a fan of the traditional Windows Phone Wallpapers and want to have an app that will automatically update your lock screen.
The latest updates adds some new features like adjustable refresh time interval , only allow specific contacts to be used in the collage, etc. Currently the app only works on Windows Phone 8.

WhatsApp on Windows Phone 8

By the looks of it, WhatsApp might be slated to release on the Windows 8 platform as early as end of this week. This nifty app that lets users communicate and send messages and pictures via Wifi and Mobile networks without costing the user any money.
This news was doled out by Nokia Care representatives to folks from ubergizmo and we do hope its true :) This is one of those trending apps that have a wide appeal to all audiences and getting this on Windows phone 8 will be a big boost to the users.
App Downloads and Developer Revenue doubles since WP8!!

Todd Brix, Senior Director, Windows Phone Apps Team tweeted recently that not only have app downloads doubled but developer revenue has also seen a similar increase after Windows phone 8 has been released. This augurs well not only for the OS but also for developers and users on the fledgling platform.

That’s according to the Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. No actual numbers shared (as usual) but he claimed that the new platform was selling “4 times” as many phones as its predecessor.
