April 8th, the day in which the Nokia Lumia 900 introduces itself to the US Market via AT&T. There are a lot of consumers here in the states, who have been waiting for this day to arrive. This article won’t be about that however. Same date, same carrier, but a different story though. With no big promotion, no people clamoring for its launch, front page on AT&T’s website, heck not even on its own OEM’s front page on their website, the HTC Titan™ II will launch on April 8th along with the Lumia 900. While kind of sad, it actually offers encouragement, the US market is showing Microsoft that they think WP is good, just not on a recycled Android device.

Nokia 900 Award Winner
Let the frenzy begin! The Nokia 900 is now available for pre-order online via AT&T and WalMart! This is great news for many overly eager people who had a rumored day come and go without the Nokia 900 becoming available earlier in the month. The availability of the top-tier smartphone the Nokia Lumia 900 at the largest retailer in the US is important. A common complaint with our young OS is availability. AT&T has been in the Windows Phone headlines of recent with it’s snubbing of the 8107 Update, receiving much scrutiny for it’s decision not to rollout the update to it’s WP subscribers. Perhaps in an attempt to redeem themselves, AT&T announced they in conjunction with Nokia will be marketing the Nokia Lumia 900 with more force upon it’s April 8th launch date than when they released the iPhone. In addition AT&T has offered some explanation as to why their WP subscribers will have to wait for the 8107 Update and when to expect it. For more details read past the break.

Most of you are all familiar with Ben Rudolph or @BenThePCGuy, who has been busy with WP’s “SmokedbyWindowsPhone” campaign. This is where Ben is up against non-WP phone users in a battle to upload a photo taken then to FB from lockscreen, also referred to as Pocket-to-Picture-to-Post. If Ben wins, participants leave with a new WP and if the participant wins, they leave with a$100. Well Microsoft thought they would up the ante raising the stakes. We’re less than a week in and we are gaining traction! Mark and I received a lot of good feedback through different networks and have spent some time bouncing ideas back and forth on ways to improve the WinPhan Movement. We appreciate all the feedback our great readership here offered on ways to improve the Movement! For starters, we got rid of the “7″ and will just refer to the Movement as WinPhan in order to simplify the issue of numerical changes with OS updates. Next, in addition the WinPhan SkyDrive, where you can download customizable WinPhan pics, we have started other social network outlets to get the word out there and generate a WinPhan community. A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article here about why I consider WP and the US a bad match. Today AT&T helped to drive that point home to its many subscribers who are WP owners. In an unfortunate tweet today one of AT&T’s community managers informed us that AT&T will NOT release the 8107 Update that fixes the mysteriously disappearing keyboard and adds some additional security features. Instead they are opting to pass on yet another update, as Update 7740 came and went with barely a whisper since most WP owners were more concerned with the keyboard issue. Would you believe AT&T is Windows Phone’s biggest supporter in the US? Just sad…

Nokia Lumia 610
In an attempt to bring Windows Phones to a younger crowd and people with a more limited budget, Nokia and WP’s other OEM’s are gearing up to release these lower-priced/lower-spec’d devices to the market. Now making the list of regions to be receiving the Nokia Lumia 610, will be the Netherlands. While the Lumia 610 won’t blow you away with all the features available to its bigger and faster Lumia family members sporting 512MB of RAM, this new low cost device with 256MB of RAM will surely offer plenty of bang for its buck!
