At the PDC ( Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference ) conference for developers, Ray Ozzie ( Microsoft’s chief software architect ) said, that smartphone apps will not be a differentiator among smartphones.

“All the apps that count will be ported to every one of them,” he said. It’s a completely different situation from the PC market, where software’s built to run on a Windows or a Mac, he said. Mobile apps require very little development, so it’s much easier to bring them onto every platform. So according to him all good apps on the appstore and android market is going to come to Windows Mobile.. What do you guys think ? I couldn’t help but laugh at this. When you look at the things in the past its true.. all the good apps on Windows were ported to Mac, Linux, etc….

There are many news site covering this issue with the title ” Microsoft says : Apps don’t make your phone special ” as usual this goes in line with the Windows Mobile hate campaign on the web. Microsoft is pushing the need for apps by getting a marketplace in place , a web version of the marketplace and tutorials on how to port apps from the iPhone. The only thing to see is will the developers of good apps on the iPhone / Android consider porting their apps to Windows Mobile.

Wired.com’s latest Windows Mobile title suggests a Windows Mobile Hate campaign ” How Microsoft Blew It With Windows Mobile “. If you go through the article they have gone through some of the flaws in the platform and what the future might hold for Windows mobile with WM7. The article is well worth the read if you are a windows mobile fan and the comments section are on fire with iphone and WM fanbois.

Some things they talk about

the Gartner reports where the last quarter Windows Mobile’s market share plummeted to 7.9 percent.

iPhone’s consumer centric device , appstore and apps

Peter Hoddie, CEO of Kinoma thinks WM is a great platform and talks about iPhone, whose apps he described as “beautiful,” which encourages third-party developers to produce apps of similar quality.

segmentation in the hardware ecosystem ( android is facing issues with apps in this department )

Windows Mobile is still largely focused on enterprise features ( but new devices like the HD2 is trying to bridge the gap )

With the success streak from Microsoft of late.. bing, Windows 7, Zune HD, etc we have high hopes for WM7… What do you think ? lets us know in the comments …

Work-Life Balance with Spb Mobile Shell 3.0: New Version of World’s Bestselling Mobile Application

St. Petersburg, April 21st, 2009 – Spb Software, a leading maker of mobile software, releases Spb Mobile Shell 3.0, the next-generation user interface for Windows phones. According to Handango Yardstick, Spb Mobile Shell was the world’s number one bestselling application of 2008 among all mobile platforms.

Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 accounts for two different smartphone use scenarios: at work and at play. The application offers distinctive ‘professional’ and ‘lifestyle’ desktops, integration of picture contacts with Facebook, account-sensitive email indicators, handsome time and weather screens, widgets, responsive kinetic scrolling, signature 3D animation engine, and other appealing assets that change the way a Windows phone is used altogether.

Previous versions of Spb Mobile Shell were shipped by a number of innovative phone makers, such as Acer, O2, Pharos, Sony Ericsson, and Toshiba, have won numerous awards, and have been the choice of millions of customers. “It was challenging to design 3.0, as customer expectations are quite high,” – comments Yaroslav Goncharov the Spb Mobile Shell Product Manager and CTO at Spb Software – “On the other hand, this level of success gave us confidence in our basic ideas and design philosophy, and we certainly feel that Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 has all it takes to be the strong foundation for a host of new and immensely popular Windows phones.”
