BBC iPlayer Streaming on Windows Mobile

BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer

MoDaCo recently published this nifty little workaround to get the BBC iplayer to stream on Windows Mobile. Just follow these simple instructions.

  1. On your device, go to Opera Mobile 9 and type in opera:config ( oh yeah it works on the mobile browser too, here are some things to try on Firefox on your PC )
  2. Scroll down to User Prefs and tap to choose
  3. Scroll down to Custom User-Agent and enter sgh-i900 at the end of whatever is written there.
  4. Scroll down and choose save, ignore any prompt to restart phone and then in the browser window go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/
  5. Thats it..

If you get a 502 error apparently this is only temporary. Oh if you dont want to go through withthese steps get Skyfire, It should work without any issue on it.

The video player overlay is hacked out of TCPMP and the FLV part is based on FFMPEG.
The app is written in a mixture of .net and C so you need the .net runtime, v2 or v3.5.
