We have seen multiple Windows Phone Tips on our Tip and tricks video ( part 1 ) ( part 2 ). But every now and then you might come across something new. I always knew you can give voice commands to place outgoing calls on Windows Phone but what I did not know was that you can also ask Windows Phone to place that call on speaker. The credits for this goes to black-lion_213 on reddit.
The command you use is ” Call <> on speaker “ after clicking and holding the Windows Button. So did you know this feature existed ? Got any other handy tips let us know via the comments below.
We are planning to include windows 8 in to our coverage along with the usual Windows phone stuff. Now with the release inching closer I think its time we started taking a look at some Tips and Tricks that will help users who are new to the OS adjust to the new UI changes and features in Windows 8. So here it comes 5 Handy Tips for Windows 8 ( there are basic stuff so if you are a expert user you might not really find anything new in here )
1) Quick App Search
When you are in the Windows 8 Metro UI and want to quickly find or launch an app what do you do ? Just start typing , no keyboard shortcuts or Windows Key + F or anything … Just Start Typing the name of the app and let Windows 8 find it as you type.
The folks at xda-dev has collected what looks like some nice little tips and tricks for Mango users ( some of you might have already seen and used these ) . Those of you who have installed Mango on their WP7 devices might want to give these tips and tricks a spin. If there are some tips that you have noticed on Mango and want to share with others feel free to drop us a line via the comments.
I am not a heavy video user on the go ( on my Windows Phone ) , I usually spend the time listening to an audiobook or trying to play games that I need to review on the windows phone games site. But I am sure there are quite a few guys / gals out there who would rather watch a movie / TV show on the go. Apparently the automatic conversion of videos for Windows Phone done by Zune might not always be the best possible quality and there are other ways in which you can convert the video so that you get the best possible audio and video experience on your Windows Phone.
This guide by fellow xda-dev member rvmax shows us how we can apparently encode a HD video ( 720p or 1080p ) and hard-code the subtitles in to the video so that we can see that on the phone. We will be using a free Open Source software called VidCoder.
They keyword for the title is new, so if you have been using Windows Phone for a while then you might be familiar with most if not all of these little tips. There are many more of tips and tricks and we hope to cove them in the future.
Now some of you might be wondering why would anyone need any special instuctions to get Youtube Videos to Work on Windows Phone 7 ? All you need is to download the Youtube App from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and you are all set to go. Unfortunately its not that simple for some of us. When we installed the WP7 Youtube app it works well when you launch the app it goes to mobile youtube and you can play videos but if you try to play a video on a web page with an embedded youtube video, WP7 does not display the thumbnail and play button to launch the youtube app.
On the StatusBar there is a triangle that indicates you’re roaming. Windows Phone 7 automatically disables data access while roaming. But if you want to enable it there is an option. Go into All Programs, Settings, Cellular. There’s an option called “Data roaming options” which is set to “Don’t roam.” Just change that to “Roam” and you’re good to go.
This is a nice little feature to have and will prevent those nasty data roaming charges.
