If you do not include the tax it assumes it is a part of the amount. If you do include the tax you can choose whether to include it in the tip calculation, another nice feature is the adjustment feature : This feature allows you to adjust how much a person owes when the bill is split. Example: If 3 people go out to dinner and a fourth joins them just for drinks. You can split the bill by 4 and then add an adjustment to say the 4th person only pays $20 and the rest is split evenly.
