Calendars on the PC

Calendars on the PC

When it comes to Windows Phone 7 we have to look at what the people who got a developers device are saying ( at least till the Microsoft employees start to put WP7 on ebay ;) ). Today we ( via windowsphonesecrets.com ) have some information to share with you guys about Calendars on Windows Phone 7.

Lets get the basic things out of the way WP7 Calendars has got the ability to sync with multiple calendar accounts ( Exchange calendar, Google Calendar , Windows Live calendar ), you can color code each of these in any one of the available color. You can add appointments on the phone and that will get synced up to the calendar in the cloud. Tasks and subscribed calendars from a main calendar account are NOT supported ( at least not in the initial version ). Multiple calendars from a source will come through to WP7 but there is no way to say you want to only sync certain calendar and disable the other ( from a single source )

Now on to the detailed look at the stuff that is not present. Tasks it is pretty much straightforward, but what does multiple calendars and subscribed calendars from a main calendar account mean.

pTasks

pTasks

pTasks is a replacement for the default (and unfortunately outdated-looking) Windows Mobile task manager. The finger-friendly user interface allows grouping of tasks according to categories, due dates and user-set conditions. What sets pTasks apart from other task managers is the ability to review flagged emails (on Exchange/ActiveSync accounts), in the same screen as other tasks. A wealth of configuration options are provided, that give users the ability to customize the program’s appearance and operation. With pTasks installed you will actually wonder how you were able to get things done before! Using pTasks, you can access and modify the overwhelming majority of task parameters, including start-end dates, reminders, privacy and category management. You can even do things that you were never able to before (combine, email tasks, convert to appointments and easily review flagged emails).

Features:
* Task Management
* Flagged Emails
* Finger Friendly
* Productivity
* Getting things done

Nested Tasks

Nested Tasks is a pocket pc software for managing tasks. That’s Outlook Tasks, not a “task/app manager”

  1. It (pretty much) replaces all the functionality of the built-in Tasks application.
  2. It adds the ability to nest tasks under one another
  3. Based entirely on properties of the built-in Tasks – will sync with Exchange/Outlook, and requires no importing of Tasks

Features:

  1. Cut and Paste tasks to create nesting
  2. Add new, edit and Delete tasks
  3. Copy tasks to create duplicates
  4. View and set task Priority from the menu
  5. Complete or Activate Tasks with the checkboxes

EmailTriage

EmailTriage

This a a great app by Dale Lane, it is a small plugin for Outlook Mobile to help triage the emails. The application adds a context menu items to emails that let you create a new To Do item in Outlook Tasks, or a new diary entry in Outlook Calendar. Imagine getting an email asking you to do something, and you are busy to do it straight away so with this app with one tap you can create a new To Do list item, pre-filling it with information from the email. Similarly if you get an email about an event or meeting you need to go to, with one tap you can create a new Calendar item, pre-filling it with information from the email.

ThumbCal

ThumbCal

Thumbcal is a new generation all in one Task and Calendar finger friendly application. If Windows Mobile touch screen devices come with a stylus, one has to admit using the fingers is a much more natural fashion. Yet very few Windows Mobile applications have been designed for being used without a stylus. With Thumbcal you will realise that your device screen is much bigger than you thought. It is just a question of arranging the information properly, and designing the software for this purpose ! Now thanks to thumbapps.com all our readers can get the app with a 20% discount for the next week.
  • EFFICIENT: we have designed Thumbcal to always minimize the number of clicks needed. We use a context based engine to adapt the navigation path. For instance, a single click on any day from the month view will either show the list of existing events, or ask you to create an appointment/task. Define your own default values for appointment duration, reminder/alarm options
  • NATURAL: scrolling everywhere so fast : swipe your finger up/down or left/right from the month/week/day view to move to another period. For instance from the month view a left swipe will bring up the next month. Swiping your finger up will take you 1 year ahead.
  • EASY: no need to learn how to use Thumbcal. Some Personal Information Managers offer very powerful features to create links between, tasks, appointments, your contacts… but learning can be challenging. So if you are looking for a real user freindly solution, that does not require a lengthy and painful learning process, we have designed Thumbcal for you.
  • AND MORE:
    • No more need for a stylus : fully designed for finger use
    • Full replacement of the default Windows task and calendar application.
    • Full Outlook Synchronisation
    • Available in 16 languages already (more coming!)
    • Choose your style : share with our community many themes to change the appearance of ThumbCal in a few seconds. If you want even more customisation, we will help you create your own unique theme!
