TaskPlus is a Pocket PC plug-in for the Today screen displaying:

• tasks items
• birthdays and anniversary of contacts items
• appointments items

from the Outlook Pocket PC database.

Each line displays a item with the start date, subject and due date. Completed items are no longer displayed. Multiple instances with separated options can be installed in the Today screen (the clone option) and merge items in the same category.

AM TasksPlus is a Today Screen plug-in that replaces the simplified tasks plug-in provided by the PocketPC manufacturer. AM TasksPlus shows compact tasks statistics or a detailed list of incomplete tasks grouped by date (Actual, Due today, Overdue and Future tasks). Groups can be easily switched between the compact and detailed form. Using user defined configuration profiles, various views can be quickly applied to change the Today screen.

The default task and appointments on today screen is not a great feature of Windows Mobile , On a scale of 1-5 where 1 is the lowest I would rate it 0. Many commercial application like SPB Diary offers a very powerful today plugin replacement for task and appointments. Recently I was looking for a freeware alternative for the same and came across TodayAgenda.

TodayAgenda displays appointments and tasks on your today screen up to 30 days in advance. It replaces the default Outlook plugin with a lot of more features. On a scale of 1-5 this gets a 4. The only drawback I found was that it takes a while to refresh the today screen plugin once changes are made. How would you rate this application ?

Functions:

• View appointments (including location and busy status) up to 30 days in advance
• View tasks (include status) up to 30 days in advance
• View birthdays/anniversaries from your contacts up to 30 days in advance
• View current day and time
• Open tasks and appointments from your today screen
• “Complete” tasks via context menu on your today screen
• Create new appointments and tasks via context menu on your today screen
• Delete appointments and tasks
• Font and color of appointments and tasks can be set depending on their categories
• Tasks can be sorted by subject, priority, start or due date
• Open calendar, task list and time/alarm settings (tap and tap’n'hold on the TodayAgenda icon or clock)
• Anniversary function: for all day, free, yearly appointments without end date the years since the beginning are displayed
• Collapse/expand days and task list (double click onto day/task header)
• Filter items by category

SpoonDo! is a simple application for Windows Mobile, designed to replace the default Outlook Tasks functionality. Unlike the default tasks application, SpoonDo! is finger friendly, so everything can be done without using the stylus. SpoonDo! presents the tasks in different folders distinguishing between different type of tasks. By clicking on a folder, a list of tasks is presented – sorted by the due dates of the tasks (if exist). Using the arrows enables easy browsing between folders and tasks. SpoonDo! holds a simple method for adding and modifying existing tasks, so that using the Outlook tasks will become simple and effective. When adding or modifying a Task, it’s very easy to enter the details, including optional information such as priority, due date and reminders. The ‘Urgent Tasks’ folder presents tasks from all categories which are due to end soon.

Some notes on usage:

In calendar view you can navigate through the years by swiping your finger from bottom to top or vice versa.
To navigate through the months, swipe your finger from left to right or vice versa.
