At first glance you could be fooled into thinking it is a Windows Phone, but once you look more closely you can see that the pictures are indeed fake, I’ll tell you why I think they are fake…

There are no hardware buttons (Back, Windows & Home)

The Messaging icon is incorrect (the smiley is on its side in the speech bubble)

The camera button is incorrect (there is a lump on the top of the camera in wp7)

There is no hardware buttons for the camera (unless its well hidden)

The hardware shows ‘Xperia’ on the bottom

Prototypes from Sony tend to have the text printed on the handset, Not on a sticker!

Sony Ericsson (soon to be Sony due to a corporate buy out) have secretly been working on a Windows Phone, this rumour has been going around for a while now, Today the guys over at NokiaWP have released two (slightly blurry) photos of the rumoured upcoming device. The photos do show a couple of points to note, there will no doubt be a slide down keyboard (seen above the wording ‘Prototype Not For Sale’) and its likely NOT to have a front facing camera as it cannot be seen in the pictures. Furthermore it appears to have what looks like Gorilla Glass (could even be Gorilla Glass 2!)

It’s here, the XPERIA X1 QWERTY from Sony Ericsson. Yes, full QWERTY to make the most of that Windows Mobile 6 operating system. SE’s new XPERIA brand will focus on multimedia and mobile web communication. The X1 then, brings a 3-inch wide VGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera (with photo light), A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and microSD — just 400MB on board. On the phone side you’ve got quad-band GSM/EDGE, and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (or 850/1700/1900/2100MHz in what must be a US-bound model). Navigation is accomplished via touch, arc-sliding QWERTY, 4-way key and optical joystick. Now just replace that Internet Explorer Mobile browser with Opera Mobile 9.5 or Skyfire and the 110 x 53 x 16.7-mm X1 is ready to live up to its potential. You know, when it ships in “select markets” in the second half of 2008.
