MWC 2012

With today wrapping up the 2012 Mobile World Congress, there are no more surprises left to uncover. A month’s worth of rumors, stabs in the dark, and wishful thinking can be laid to rest and we can begin discussing what it is we learned at the MWC regarding WP and 2012. There was some good news, ”could have done without” news, 2 new devices, and even an announcement of a long awaited app that made its way to the WP Marketplace during the trade show. SMS Backup v0.3 Homebrew App

Do you need to backup your SMS messages? manually flashing firmware on Lumia800 anyone? Well shinichi_wtn over at XDA-Devs has created a homebrew app to backup your SMS messages and store on SkyDrive… (I wish I knew about this yesterday :P )

For me the speech to text ( in Mango ) works great and I often find myself using it. TransparenTxt is a new windows phone app that lets you see where you are going while you are busy texting your mates. Personally I will never need this but I love the idea behind the app, mind you it’s not a new concept there are apps on the iPhone and Android that does this and now we windows phone users can walk n text too .. yay :) and I have witnessed people walking in to lamp-posts and what not ( not just on youtube, in real life too ) and this app could be a godsend to them. If you SMS a lot while walking, then TransparenTXT provides a see-through messaging window and keyboard on top of the live vidoe from your camera. Again this might just be a Mango App ( I have tested it on Mango Omnia 7 and it works )

QuickText

QuickText is a Windows Phone 7 application that lets you quickly send pre-defined group text messages – within 3 taps!

The main feature of QuickText is SPEED. It loads quickly and the user can navigate through the app quickly. Once groups and messages have been configured, it only takes 3 taps to get a group text message ready to send. Load app, select the group, select the message, hit send, and you’re done.

You can define Groups (a collection of Contacts), Messages, and Group-specific Messages. Contact information can be imported from your phone’s people hub, or entered manually.

Future versions will have support for Message Variables such as the current date/time, gps location, etc.
