Red Omnia

Samsung has announced a new color for its Omnia Windows Mobile phone. Aside from the black and white variants, it will also be available in red by the end of January. Most likely reason for this move is speculated as many Chinese traditionally associate red with good luck.

Free SIM Unlock for Samsung i780 and Omnia

I am not sure if this will void the warranty on the phone, so try it @ your own risk.

Samsung Omnia

This method was developed by _TB_TB_ from xda-developers.com and will work only for Samsung i780 and Samsung Omnia ( i900 )

Download lock.zip
copy all three .lnk files to your PPC
run Lock.lnk
enter valid MCC/MNC of any carrier (I used my “real” SIMLock carrier ID, list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code ; eg. 26001 for Poland, Plus)
As NCK, enter an unlock code , for eg : 12345678
tap OK (it should tell that SIMLock enabled)
run Status.lnk to see if its locked
run Unlock.lnk
enter code entered in point 5 (12345678)

congrats you have just SIM unlocked your device for FREE !!!

Alternative method, works on i780, no copying of anything required:

In the phone dialer app, type in *7465625*638*#
enter valid MCC/MNC of any carrier (I used my “real” SIMLock carrier ID, list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code ; eg. 26001 for Poland, Plus)
As NCK, enter an unlock code , for eg : 12345678
tap OK (it should tell that SIMLock enabled)
in the Phone dialer, type in: *#7465625# to check if you are locked.
Finally, to unlock your phone, type #7465625*638*# in your dialer and enter code entered in point 3 (12345678)

Update on 06th Jan 09 – another way to get the Samsung Omnia unlocked

Go to the registry, HKCU\System\State\PHONE, and wrote down the first 6 digits of the value of the IMSI entry.

type *7465625*638*# to set
type the first 6 digits of the value of the IMSI entry here.
type your new NCK (12345678), then OK
type *#7465625# to check your lock (network lock still enabled)
type #7465625*638*# and type your NCK (12345678)

Widget Manager and more widgets finds its way on to Omnia

PocketNow.com is reporting that the new Omnia ROM update [ L1 & L2 ] will contain the Widget Manager that may of you all wanted and a lot of new widgets too ( the likes of Yahoo, CNN, AccuWeather, Stocks ). Though many developers are not active on the Omnia, the device has been hugely popular among the people and gradually developers were getting their applications updated to render properly on the unusual screen resolution offered on the device.

Install Samsung Omnia User Interface on your VGA device

WARNING : Some people have had issues with this and have had to Hard Reset their device. So if you decide to install it, please make a back of your data.

Omnia on VGA device

Install Samsung Omnia User Interface on your VGA device like the Touch Diamond or Touch Pro. Its assumed that flash Lite is already present on your device.

Install Instruction :

Download the plugin
Omnia Today Plugin and install it in to the Phone memory
Download the VGA files
Touchwiz VGA
Extract the VGA files
Copy these files to your windows directory overwriting the ones that are already there
Go to Settings > Today > Items and unselect TouchFLO3D (Samsung Widget should already be selected)

DONT select the other today items like Samsung Today 1 or Samsung Today 2, you might have to Hard Reset if you do

Reboot

For QVGA screen devices : Omnia UI on QVGA device

Samsung Omnia User Interface on your device plus more

The good folks over @ xda-dev has done it again, the Omnia Today Screen can be put on to any touchscreen device running Windows Mobile.

Install Instructions:

Install AdobeFlashLite 2.1
Install Samsung Omnia SMPlayer/Touch Player
Install Opera 9
Install Samsung Omnia Today Plugins
Put your pictures into \\My Documents\\My Pictures folder on your device (not storage card)
For Kaiser/Other device with screen height 320 Install SJ GrandP_320.cab and Install SJ DCINOBAR.cab to remove the taskbar.
