Windows Phone WordPress Starter Kit

Windows Phone Starter Kit for WordPress is a plugin that you install on wordpress that will allow you to offer your site’s content via a Windows Phone App. The application is developed by Chris Koenig and is an open-source initiative. The features of the WP7 app inclide the ability to view posts, view comments associated to the posts, and add their own comments.

The code sample contain 2 elements : a WordPress Plugin ( which you have to install via wordpress, will probably only work will self hosted wordpress installations )and the source code for a windows phone application Starter Kit ( which you can customise to your site’s needs )

News Framework : instant WP7 app for news sites

News Framework WP7

News Framework is an offline news reading framework which uses RSS feds from news website and can turn it to a simple Windows Phone 7 application for the website. The configuration, content and styles can be managed from outside of the framework itself to fit the needs. The app is developed by TanzimSaqib, the app is open source and is available from newsfx.codeplex.com

WP7 Apps : MahTweets – an opensource WP7 and Desktop Twitter app

We have seen quite a few twitter apps and the good folks from mykindofphone.com have done a good job to cover most of them. Now GTRoberts have tipped us to another twitter client for WP7 that failed to show up on our radar.

Mahtweets is a opensource ~~Twitter~~ social media client for the PC that allows the users to manage multiple social networks like facebook, twitter, flickr, FourSquare and the developer have also released the source code for the WP7 version which looks like twitter client and we are not sure if the other social networks are integrated to the WP7 version. The features for the WP7 version are not mentioned on the site but they have the source code available if you want to give it a go on the wp7 emulator.

According to @NickHodge who is involved in the project @aeoth ( Paul Jenkins ) is the father of both the WP7 and Desktop version. The others involved include Will Hughes, Brendan Forster and UXLuver.

CloseSudoku is an open source Sudoku game for Windows Mobile. The game offers 90 puzzles in 3 difficulty settings. Every game also contains information about the elapsed time and the date of the last play. Numbers can be filled in by clicking on the board and selecting the required number or you can choose a number and then place it on the board (‘Popup’ and ‘Single number’ input mode). Users can change the application skin (colors, elements size).

ArkSwitch updated to v1.2.0

ArkSwitch is a finger-friendly task manager for Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and up ( will work older WM wm6.5.x with some limitation ). Check out our review for an older version here. Its quite easy to install

1. Install the CAB.
2. Either reboot (it will run on startup) or start it from the start menu –> Tools.
3. Click the left half of the top bar (or other area if customized) to bring it up.

and there are a few themes available, so you can quickly change the look of the app.

- FIX: Shortcut creation (was fixed in an unofficial v1.1.4a release earlier)
- ADD: Quickly killing the foreground app by “scratching” the activation field!
- ADD: German translation
- ADD: More registry tweaks, including one to disable the “Close All” confirmation

Which means the game is now free for WM6.x users. The game should support all major resolutions. OpenSource Authentication for WP7 : Sevenauth Project

The sevenauth project aims to make it simple to let WP7 app users authenticate using existing mechanisms, rather than having to remember yet another username and password. I am taking a stab in the dark and going to assume the app has plans to support Seven Authentication system. From the video demo from Arktronic ( who is no stranger around these parts, chances are you might have used his ArkSwitch App or seen the demo for his WP7 app ArkWords ) we can see 3 login methods supported

wp7 games : Square Away puzzle Game

Square Away is a new open source puzzle game for Windows Phone 7 from orktane.com. The developer has released the source code and the game was developed by using nRoute ( which is an open source application framework for creating MVVM-style applications in Silverlight, WPF, and Windows Phone 7 ). They have also released a short video of the game in action

BeeHive Game Ported to Windows Phone 7

Mishkin Faustini from thedirtydeveloper.com have been working on a port for BeeHive which looks like a Arkanoid cone ( Arcade gamers would remember the game as an cone of Breakout ). Much like the game Breakout, the player controls the paddle which prevents a ball from falling from the playing field, attempting to bounce it against a number of hexagons ( which resembles a beehive ? ). You gain points for breaking the blocks. In the early look at the game , the controls looks a bit awkward and there were no powerups. Keep in mind this is only an early preview and more features might be added as time goes by. The developer has posted the Source Code on his website.

Google Voice Easy SMS 2.0 – new version that works

Google Voice Easy SMS 2.0 is now out, this windows mobile application allows users to text messaging (SMS) via your Google Voice account. It can pull the contact info from the phone’s contacts list. The app needs a data connection.

Important Installation Note:
Once you have downloaded and installed Easy SMS, you’ll need to enter your Google Account information by going to ‘Menu’ -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘Google Account Settings’. Fill in the info, then do ‘Menu’ -> ‘Check for Messages’.
