Demand for Nokia’s Lumia 920 (what many consider to be the flagship WP8 phone) continues to be extremely high worldwide. Today was the launch of the device’s retail availability in Australia and not only were stock levels extraordinarily low, it appears there was only choice of colour (or not colour, as it were).
TechRadar have posted an insightful article on the design principles used in the Lumia line of phones, informed by an interview with Kevin Shields, Executive Vice President of Nokia.
It’ covers some interesting ground and really highlights the dedication Nokia have to designing beautiful hardware; a dedication that many of us are soon to reap the benefits of.

When it comes to mobile mapping services, Nokia is the king. Nokia Maps has been Nokia’s killer location based service for years and now and together with Nokia Drive is offering free navigation for everyone. With the new Windows Phone 8 update Nokia Drive will become in every Windows Phone device. The new Windows Phone 8 will support offline maps, turn by turn directions, and will give developers access to map control and use the high quality global NAVTEQ mapping data. The basic idea in my concept is the availability Nokia Maps, Drive, Transport and City Lens to work together as one application. I named this app – Nokia Navi. Enables rich, customizable location-based navigation system with complete functionality for Maps, Positioning, Places, Directions, Traffic and more.

After an exclusive Dark Knight app for Windows Phone, Nokia is pushing on its exclusive app lineup .. this time we have a movie trailers app called Nokia Trailers ( genius name don’t you think !!! ). As you can imagine it’s an app to view Hollywood movie trailers. You can stream the latest trailers or download them to your phone. There are some extra settings you can enable by letting the app access to location services and push messages.
Nokia is at it again with another exclusive this time it’s a promo app for The Dark Knight Rises. I used to see promo apps for movies on the iPhone and I think this might be one of the first ones for our beloved platform. We have seen exclusive hardware for Lumia Dark Knight with Lumia 800 and the 900 and now we have an app / game to build up hype for a move that is downright the most anticipated title this year. The app is free and available via the Nokia Marketplace and now on to the bad news.
Batman fans are here for a treat from Nokia. You may remember that back in December Nokia launched Lumia 800 Dark Knight Rises limited edition handsets. Now Nokia is doing the same with Lumia 900 and will be launched in the coming weeks.

Nokia’s Reading for Windows Phone app is an ebook reader app / store for Nokia’s Lumia devices which allow in-app purchasing of ebooks. With similar apps from Audible very close to being released other OEM users need not worry too badly about this offering. You might also want to check out Spreadsong’s ebook app that offers books from the public domain. France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, and the UK will receive the app first, with other countries speculated to get access later this year.
A few weeks ago we reported about the AppCampus from Microsoft and Nokia.
Of course I registered for the AppCampus newsletter. Today I received a message that they are now accepting app submissions. Read the full mail below:
Today we received news from Europe and Russia about the Nokia Lumia 610.
Of course we would think Siri is going to tell us the best phone ever is the iPhone. We are wrong!
Just have a look on this image:
Nokia was given special privileges for coming on board the Windows Phone train, they have not really been pushing the boundaries other than adding some custom tiles and ringtones which even other OEMs have provided. Now TheVerge is reporting that Nokia is pushing out a Nokia branded Windows Phone Marketplace logo. The functionalities of the marketplace stays the same its just a pretty logo on top. Now this Nokia device is running on tango a.k.a Windows Phone 7.5 refresh so we are not yet sure if other OEM’s can bring out something similar.
From today on, Nokia’s flag ship device Lumia 900 is also available outside the US. The international version has no LTE but comes with HSPA+ on board.
