Microsoft has released a beta of Phone Data Manager, a utility designed to backup select data ( contacts, music, video and photos )on your Windows Mobile phone (or other SyncML/OBEX standard compliant handset) so you can restore it with ease. The beta works both with Windows Live Contacts and a Windows PC.

Its not a complete Backup solution, but does offer some benefits. Contacts are saved on to Windows Live, while media files are stored in a folder on your Windows XP or Vista PC. In order for you to synchronize contacts, you will need to have a Windows Live ID (any Hotmail ID is a valid Windows Live ID). If you do not have one, you will be prompted to create one while you use the application.
