Windows Phone 7 Location Settings

We recently did a report on how Windows Phone hacker Rafael Rivera, the man who jailbreaked the platform and tested the camera app to find out whether Microsoft sends device location information to its servers without explicit user confirmation, which then came true. Of course Microsoft was not gonna sit with their hands closed and do nothing about it. Turns out Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” update has introduced an important privacy change to the operating system dealing with it. (more…)

Welcome to Nearby!

Have you needed to find a nearby place? Nearby is the just the right app for that.

Nearby uses multiple sources like Yelp, Yahoo, and CitySearch to find businesses and places near your location. Nearby finds the restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets and other locations close to you.

Using Nearby you can find the phone number, address, and web site of the businesses you are interested in. Nearby shows the location you are interested in on a map and provides you step-by-step directions for how to get there. You can also save your favorite locations so that you are able to find them easily.

In addition to finding nearby places, you can search for specific keywords and the app will show the closest places that match your search. Once you find the location you want, you can email or text the place information to a friend.

You can also browse to the location’s website right from within the app. Additionaly, Nearby allows you to view the Yelp, Yahoo, or CitySearch page for that location to view reviews and other information.

Sorry I’M Late will send a message to that someone telling him our approximate location and an estimate time to reach the destination with a few clicks. The app uses CellID localization instead of GPS so older windows phone devices can use it as well.
