iDialer 0.53 – iPhone style dialer for Windows Mobile with support for Google Voice

iDialer 0.53

iDialer 0.53

iDialer is a finger-friendly dialpad for Windows Mobile PocketPC phones. It’s essentially a clone of the very excellent iPhone dialer, with one major enhancement: iDialer allows you to seamlessly place calls using your virtual number from Google Voice, Phone.com, or JaJah!

iDialer is also skinnable (for those who don’t like the iPhone look) and works with both VGA and QVGA skins, and in both portrait and landscape mode. It can also be used to simply replace your built-in dialpad, or as a nice interface for your calling cards! The latest versions, v0.51 and v0.52, fix some bugs with Google Voice and make switching service more intuitive.

Windows Mobile might lose more developers , now that you can develop for iPhone via .NET and c#

MonoTouch

MonoTouch

.NET is a major development platform for Windows Mobile and now a Company by the name of MonoTouch has released a new tool. MonoTouch allows developers to create C# and .NET based applications that run on the iPhone and can take advantage of the iPhone APIs as well as reusing both code and libraries that have been built for .NET as well as existing skills. MonoTouch requires a Mac and Apple’s iPhone SDK to test on the emulator and deploy on the device. And you will need to be an Apple iPhone developer to deploy on the device. But , MonoTouch requires a Mac and Apple’s iPhone SDK to test on the emulator and deploy on the device. So now porting apps from WinMo to iPhone will be a breeze.

Microsoft starts to take Windows Mobile seriously

WindowsMobile Ads on iphone

WindowsMobile Ads on iphone

While you see bucket loads of ads about iphone from apple these days, Microsoft was looking rather uninterested in promoting its mobile division ie. Windows Mobile. But all that might be about to change. I was on twitter today and came across a tweet from habasch and he was pointing out that he could now see ” Windows Mobile MarketPlace Ads ” in his iPhone apps. He also managed to grab a screenshot of the same. Its great to see Microsoft finally showing some interest in Windows Mobile. With more ads and competitions like ” Race to Market Challenge ” Microsoft will be giving all the other major Mobile OS a run for their money.

iPhone 3GS Encryption Is ‘Useless’ for Business!! is it really ?

iPhone Hacked

iPhone Hacked

Here is an iPhone Story that many wont tell you. According to Jonathan Zdziarski,, an iPhone developer and a hacker who teaches forensics courses on recovering data from iPhones, claims that the enterprise-friendly encryption included with the iPhone 3GS is so weak it can be cracked in two minutes with a few pieces of readily available freeware. In a recent report from wired.com He claims that “It is kind of like storing all your secret messages right next to the secret decoder ring,” and also went on to say “I don’t think any of us have ever seen encryption implemented so poorly before, which is why it’s hard to describe why it’s such a big threat to security.”

Are all developers going over to iPhone ?

iPhone Development lure

iPhone Development lure

There was some interesting post by Cristine Gonzalez over @ venturebeat.com. The first one goes by the title ” iPhone devotion blinds Silicon Valley app developers “. They try to point out developers are missing out when they choose to ignore the other platform and concentrate on the iPhone.

Then the developers had their say as to why they choose iPhone development over Symbian, Windows Mobile and the other players. You can read some of the reactions over @ another post titled ” Mobile app developers fire back: Nokia sucks!

A lot rests with the new Marketplace for Windows Mobile, that will be shipped with WM6.5. I believe it will be a make or break turning point for the future of Windows Mobile. Apple has put a lot of work in to the iPhone and many of the drawbacks has been dealt with ( not yet but with the release of version 3.0 of their firmware ) but there are still some drawbacks like no background process, etc. As a user of both Windows Mobile and the iPhone, I feel that the iPhone is looking more and more attractive as the days goes by. What do you guys think ?
