Microsoft have bought out a new advert, in their on-going effort to promote WindowsPhone7. Here are several things I like about this it:
It shows a real feature; displaying your 3D avatar in the X-Box Live Extras app.
It shows a real WP7 game, Need for Speed : undercover.
It includes some humour thanks to a life-size avatar doing his “sexy dance”.
It moves away from the ‘glance n’ go’ style they had been working with, which might give the wrong impression about WP7 & shows that its actually a fun platform.
Then there is the line ”You’re an avatar dan.” Which I think Ill be quoting to many of my friends who haven’t a clue what I’m on about.
The last thing I really like is that they have made a model of the phone they use in all of their advertising, now who else out there would join me in saying they would be more than happy with a phone like that? Its THE windows phone; simple, elegant & sexy.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the advert here:
So, what do you all think of this new offering from Microsoft’s marketing department? Let us know what you’re thinking by putting a comment below!
Microsoft just released some info on some premium games coming to xBox Live on Windows Phone 7 during launch. They have also unveiled what are the features that games that are xBox Live enabled will have. Upuntill now we just knew that xBox Live wont support real-time multiplayer games during launch but they have plans to introduce that down the line but for the moment you have to play asynchronous multiplayer games. We also know there will be some sort of support for your Avatar.
Engadget got the chance to test out these features first hand, so lets see what they had to say about it
Besides just announcing some games today, Microsoft has also shown off the full feature set of Xbox Live integration in Windows Phone 7, and users of the service should be pleased to discover that there’s not much missing from the version they know and love. Live on WP7 will allow for full avatar integration (we’re talking fully rendered, interactive avatars) along with customization (clothes, accessories, and more). The company has even crafted an avatar-centric version of familiar phone utilities like flashlight apps and levels, adding some whimsy to what would normally be pretty staid affairs. Additionally, messaging, friend lists / status, achievements, and leaderboards (with friend comparisons) are all here as well, making for a pretty complete mobile Xbox Live experience. And also just like the console, every game will have a try-before-you buy demo to check out before spending your hard-earned cash.
Avatar is a photo dialer with the ultra-smooth scrolling and low memory footprint. Avatar is extremely easy to use:
Flick to scroll among your contacts. Contacts without pictures will not show up.
Tap an avatar to bring up details. This is where iContact integration kicks in: if iContact is installed, Avatar will use it. If not, it will bring up the standard contact manager.
Tap-and-hold on an avatar to call using that contact’s “smart property”: the one that shows up in the standard contact manager. “<m>” = mobile, “<w>” = work, “<h>” = home, etc.
Avatar features:
low memory footprint – only around 100KB on VGA
Works on all screens: VGA, QVGA, WVGA, WQVGA, Square
