Sunscape – slide to lock / unlock utility

Sunscape

Sunscape is an opensource alternative to the iPhone lock and similar to A_C’s great S2U2. Sunscape tries to allow the user to fully configure the screen locker down to the very last details as well as maintaining a small memory footprint and trying to be as compatible as possible with very many different devices.

This app has been tested on an Axim x51v and by a couple of people reporting it to be stable enough. It’s ongoing development so I appreciate any kind of complaint, suggestion, bug, code modification or anything else you’d like to do. These are the minimum requirements:

- WM5/6
- Compact Framework 2.0
- Install to DEVICE and NOT storage card

Features:
- fully configurable interface (including graphics etc…) based on a documented XML file.
- support for time, date, appointments.
- support for weather.
- support for battery, messages, notes, emails etc…
- uses pressure-points instead of “slide to unlock”, future releases will include other nifty ways to unlock based on touch.
- has a small memory footprint and triggers based on time and load opposed to OEM “backlight” triggers.
- can hotswap portrait vs landscape, ie, it will automatically switch to landscape or portrait mode if this is activated by the user.
- has _separate_ configuration options for both modes.

Install :
1.) Once you download the package, you can find the CAB in SunscapeCAB/Sunscape.CAB. You just need to upload this to your PPC and install it (the rest of the files you can safetly ignore and they are included since this is an opensource project).

2.) After you’ve installed the package, you’ll have Sunscape / Sunscape Lock / Sunscape Unlock in your main folders and they are, as you guessed, the main program, the locking program and the unlocking program. You can run Sunscape directly and see how it looks like on your PPC.

By clicking Sunscape Lock.exe, a small program will stay resident and lock the screen after a timeout period (refer to point 3. and 3.a. please).

3.) This is the most important step: Please refer to Sunscape.xml in Program Files\Sunscape on your PPC. That is the heart and core of Sunscape and any configuration is explained and shall be done through that file (since I doubt you’ll stick with the lovely default model :-)).

3.a.) By default Sunscape locks up after 75 seconds if it observes a workload less than 15% on your CPU. Seems decent. Again, if you want to change this in any way Sunscape.xml is your friend.

4.) Sunscape tries not to be intrusive. If you like Sunscape, you can just create a shortcut from Sunscape Lock.exe to your Windows startup folder and it shall start up on boot.

Uninstall:
To uninstall Sunscape: Please first run Sunscape Unlock.exe and then uninstall. Otherwise the WAKE event will still be registered and you’ll get a nag screen that it can’t run Sunscape.

Hi, my apolgoies for sounding thick just that I am new user for windows mobile etc… I really want to try this application as it seems more user friendly than having to press the various buttons to unlock my phone (i900).

1. Will this work on the i900
2. What is the .CAB file? I downloaded it to have a look at and can just find Sunscape.000 Sunscape (got winzip style icon) Sunscape0.23 and Sunscape.043. Which one of those do I use?

Thanking you in advance
Matt

Sorry about the later reply mate , I was busy with a designer , who’s working on a new theme for the site.

Basically you just sent the cab file to your phone and click on it to install it. think of it like Setup.exe for the Windows Mobile phone

When I try to run sunscape, it starts, and then after about 3 seconds I get an out of memory error, and it crashes. How much memory does it need?

How do you change the background picture?

@Carissa : see if your wallpaper is in VGA format if you have a QVGA device this might cause memory issues…

@ Jay Cooper
You will notice a new folder img\walls. This contains a number of files named after the 24-hour clock. The default is just a simple saturation effect starting from 0:00 midnight and up to 12:00 mid-day. You can apply your own effect or anything else you might think of. It doesn’t increase the load since the wallpapers are loaded individually. This may also be disabled by using Sunscape->Config->General and setting wallaper transitions to false.
OR
If you have installed it to main memory then edit the file Program Files\Sunscape\Sunscape.xml to change the wallpaper

PS : a new version is out you can get it from the developers site. I will update it later today
