We had posted a short tutorial on how to Install Mango Beta 1 and now we have a new tutorial on how to install Mango Beta 2 for non developers. There are 2 main scenarios here
( i ) if you already have Mango Beta 1
You will get a message about the new Mango update and just follow the steps as you normally would for an update.
( ii ) if you are still on NoDo
just follow the tutorial posted below
Installing Mango Dev Beta 2 on your device might void your warranty and you are proceeding under your own risk. We are not recommending you try this.
Tutorial via windowsphonehacker.com
Prerequisites
- Make sure you are running the retail version of the Zune client, not the beta version floating around. If you get an update error, make sure you have Zune build 4.7 (available here).
- Install the Windows Phone Support Tool. Do not run it! It is only needed for the libraries, it’s not part of the process. Download: (32bit, 64bit)
- Also make sure your phone displays “Up To Date” in the Zune client. ( settings >> phone >> update in the Zune PC software after you plug in your device )
Steps
- Download version 0.3 of MangoForAll. ( we are not hotlinking to the file on req ) and extract the contents from the zip file
- Connect your phone to your PC, and close Zune on your PC.
- Run Update.bat
- Follow the steps on the screen. It will backup your device, provision it, then send a backup copy to PreMangoState2 on your C: drive.
- Zune will open, and should display an update notification for 7401. Install it (should take only a few minutes), then return to Zune. You should see another update notification for 7712. ( this will take a very very long time .. according to some even up to 2.5 hrs , so let it keep doing its thing and don’t unplug you device thinking its stuck !!! )
- now you will need to install the Zune 4.8 Beta client in order for your phone to sync. You can get it here here. When the official Mango update goes live, you will need to restore to NoDo ( so keep that backup in a safe place. To restore NoDo, run the Restore.bat file, or follow the instructions in Readme.txt.).
I have not tried this myself and personally would not recommend it but if you do give it a go let us know how it went

Does this steps works for LOCKED 7390 phone?
yeah, it doesn’t matter whether the phone is locked or not, follow the instructions from ‘If you are still on NODO’
Hmmmm…when I try to begin, it works up until after I click “any key” the second time. It tells me Invalid URI: The URI cannot be determined. Or something of that nature…I just accidentally started it despite the error because I pressed the back bar while still in that window…thought I was back in this one…I’ll inform you guys if anything catastrophic happens -_-
I had the same issue. My problem was that I kept unlocking my phone to home screen right before I ran update.bat. Try running it without unlocking the screen and see if it works.
I had initially been trying it without the screen unlocked and it didn’t (doesn’t) work. Tried it with the screen unlocked but no luck :/
make sure you have the windows phone support tool and Zune 4.7 (and make sure that both are 64-bit versions if your operating system is). Make sure Zune is closed, my phone was connected and on standby from the start. The command prompt script is only quite short, it just tells your phone to download the update from zune.
Actually I think this error is usually caused when you try and run the script without extracting it. Make sure you extract and copy the files to a folder on your computer first. You will get errors otherwise.
Ah I feel stupid. Extracted it to my desktop, and it worked amazingly. I now have Mango, and am making my second custom ringtone :3
I quite because I as afraid of what could’ve happened (Almost bricked my phone with the Walsh NoDo thing and then we had that whole fix thing to go through so I’m wary about doing this stuff.) I’d still like to know if it’d be a good idea to proceed because I really want Mango…
just updated my Mozart to Mango beta 2. Apart from the odd sideloaded app not working anymore, it went fine. Step 7 of 9: Installing Updates during the last stretch (7401 to 7712) took 45 minutes, but everything else was quite quick. From download to reboot the whole process took just under 2 hours. Mango is much nicer, haven’t tried all of the features yet.
Obviously I feel the need to point out that, although this worked for me, and it has worked for many people, by doing this there is a risk to your device. Only do this if you fully understand the consequences.
Yey Mango :)
Just update this Mango Beta to version 7712. One thing I did notice is that there is no Visual Voice. Phone’s battery compartment gets hot after 5-10 minutes of usage, when using map, gmap. Battery saver is great but didn’t see much difference in saving battery life, I dont know if it was because my phone’s signal isn’t too good, which cause it eating up my battery life, doed anyone have the similar problem. Secondly, I didn’t see an option for custom ring tone.
Here, this YouTube video will answer your issue about custom ringtones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9r7p238c6k
You make them yourself, there’s not an explicit ‘make your own ringtones’ app. It’s very easy though
this is the message i get after trying to install mango

You need to extract it. Just drag and drop everything onto your desktop THEN run it. I had the same issue
I’m getting the same error:
Error: System.UriFormatException: Invalid URI……………..
I have ran it without extracting it, I extracted it to desktop, I extracted it to my c drive I have tried everything I still get the error. Zune is up to date everything is up to date.
Just installed Mango, just what I expected. phones really fast at the mo (due to a fresh install) the future looks bright for WP7. lets get some more mainstream apps and were heading in the right direction.
I’m doing it….so far so good. One small change to the instructions, the first update being applied is now “WP7 for ISV beta (7403)”, no longer 7401.

All done – I’m Mango’d on a UK Vodafone LG Optimus 7. First impressions, no big changes, nothing broken, and lots of little things that make the phone a little bit nicer than before. R.
