Shazam was one of the early high profile app in the windows phone marketplace and later they introduced Shazam Encore which is paid app and the free version now has limitation on the number of free tries you can perform in a month but now there is a free alternative music discovery app in the marketplace called SoundHound. The app also offers singing and humming recognition for various tunes which I believe is not a feature on Shazam.
SoundHound will try and identify the artist and album of the music you are listening to using the microphone. I found the app to be quite quick and was able to detect and identify foreign songs too ( in my case I tried out a Bollywood Song ). Once you identify a song you can configure the app to share it automatically on twitter and facebook ( I did not try this myself ) and you can pull up the lyrics if available, or do a google search for it. The app will also try and recommend other artists based on the song that was just identified. If your region supports Zune Pass you can pull up the song from the Zune Catalogue. As you would expect the app will keep track of the past songs you have identified and with the Mango feature of live tile allows you to pin a shortcut to the home screen that automatically launches the app in listening mode , so you don’t have to launch the app and then click to start listening.

As long as Bing music isn’t international, I’ll stick to this :D [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
Bing Audio works perfectly fine for me
of course , but I believe there are regions where its not supported so an app like this can be quite useful there
