[ Prototype Screenshots ] Windows Mobile + xBox = Live Anywhere ??

by . Saijo on December 31, 2009

in News

We have talked about xBox and Windows Mobile the idea was announced as early as 2006 ( at E3 if I am not wrong ). The idea was to extend the Xbox Live concept to Windows Mobile and even Java-enabled phones.

They showed some early screenshots / demo of the project back in 2006 ( It was then called Live Anywhere ). The idea was Whether you’re at your PC or on the move with a mobile, you would be able to track your gamer tag, message friends, purchase content for that device or set it to download to another device, and compare rankings with your buddies on various gaming titles. This was exciting in 2006 but now since Microsoft dropped the ball on that there are some 3rd party Apps on Windows Mobile that tries to bring these features ( mind you they are not as feature rich as what Live Anywhere could have been ) . They are Mobile GamerTag and WM Live 0.8 beta

But with the buzz around the new Job posting looking to Integrate xBox and WM I hope it is some thing which allows uses to challenge other WM users for online battle in some new line of WM7 games that integrates multiplayer gameplay with friends ( kind of like what Eliminate Pro does for the iPhone with push notifications , imagine something like HALO on the WM7 devices .. that would be so cool )

Head over to Engadget’s 2006 Coverage of the Story

Do you think that Microsoft will deliver or will it go down like DeepFish or Recite ? If it does what features do you expect to see ?

I admit that WM gaming is not as good as the iPhone gaming scene at the moment but with WM7 you will never know.. :)

I can't believe people are still buying those outdated over advertised iPhones? Bring that crippled piece of crap phone to me one day and I'll give you something decent.

Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo, Electopia, Xtract, Zenonia, Assassins Creed II, Prince of Persia HD, Asphalt 4, Broken Sword, almost all Playstation and Mame emulated games and the list just goes on.

Windows Mobile does very well in gaming thank you very much…how about a Starcraft network session you iPhone people? Oh yeah I forgot, you can't haha your systems are locked or virused if Jail Broken.

Windows Mobile = Freedom!

You are trying to be funny right.

Ok let me show you how different iPhone and WM gaming is
Asphalt 4 ( Windows Mobile ) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8Yb7amcPFs
Asphalt 4 ( iPhone ) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dod-Ugio8o

Watch those and can you tell me WM is better ?

For most of the classics you guys need to go for an emulator while they are making iPhone versions of the classics. Huge difference dude.. Take Driver for instance you need an emulator and at the very least some thing will not work.. we have a Driver game that was MADE for the iPhone.

Reg your other comment ” over advertised iPhones ” whats wrong with Apple advertising their product ..

So once again HA HA… Windows Mobile Sucks ( the difference is I have used both and i know which one is better, I am almost certain you have stayed away from the iPhone )

You are getting the wrong idea.. I dont think WM games are better than iPhone games ( not now atleast ). But with WM7 it might change, especially IF xBox live is integrated to WM7

I use both iPhone and WM and iPhone have certainly come a long way from the initial days ..

No but you are still making me laugh :) iPhone please. You purposely chose a Wmobile game which was not designed for that particular phone or its resolution. WMobile games are very much on par if not better than iPhone, please see below for a proper WMobile games display:

Most iPhone games my mates try brag to me I have as well and they are the same quality. Keep telling yourself every morning iPhone is the best, iPhone is the best, and maybe you might be able to convince yourself a little longer.

Good luck with that though, WM7 will be out soon and it's only going to get worse for you.

your ignorance baffles me. I choose the game because it is made by the same developer. One for the iPhone and the other for wm.

“WMobile games are very much on par if not better than iPhone” You clearly haven't played any games on the iPhone. What ever I say you are just going to ignore it and say wm is better. I hope when WM7 fails which i am sure it will… you will come to understand that wm never was any good…

I was one of the poor buggers that rushed out and purchased an iPhone because of all the media hype, so yes I suppose you could call be ignorant. It didn't take me long before I realised I had been duped. Safari browser is crap and doesn't support flash (no flash based gaming) unlike Windows Skyfire etc.

No multi-tasking at all, oh my goodness how primitive is that? From someone that has owned many different devices incl. the iPhone I also speak from experience.

However, everyone has the right to believe what they will, I will not spend my life arguing which phone is best :) I guess time will tell huh?

Good luck with your iPhone though, think you're going to need it

I have starcraft 2 beta, but all attempts to make use of it have failed, I’ve tried ALL mac/pc VMs, crossover, wine and the remaining, all result in the identical error. So I’ll bide my time and watch for a mac version to be sent. Kinda inconsiderate to send an individual who states they personal a mac a computer beta :( . I simply wish they’ll launch the game soon!
