Price of Nokia Lumia 900 Drops By 50%

Lumia 900 is well known as Nokia’s flagship Windows phone device. As of today, it has been marked down by 50% of its original price on AT&T’s website. From a $99 original price, it has now dropped to $49.99. Some were curious why, but many were just happy to finally grab one now that it has been made more affordable.

Highlighting its greatest features – 4.3-inch screen, a 1.4 GHz processor & a Carl Zeiss lens 8-megapixel camera, the 900 is available in blue, white, black and pink on a 2-year contract. Research conducted by Nielsen during its release showed that 96% of those who got themselves a Lumia 900 were extremely satisfied with it.

Many were asking about the reason for the price cutback and one of the major reasons would be the device’s inability to upgrade its OS to windows phone 8. Rather, it will be capped at windows 7.8, like all other gen 1 & gen 2 WindowsPhone devices. Thats not much to worry about though, considering that at 7.8, the WindowsPhone start screen will be improved, which is the main highlighted feature of Windows Phone 8. However, 7.8 will not include the new APIs to support the powerful applications written specifically for WP8.

My opinion of the price drop is pure marketing. Most consumers are not aware of WP8 and the upgrade to 7.8. Nor does the average consumer care. So the price drop has nothing to do with that.

This is marketing. Sales are obviously not as high as they anticipated so they are putting a push behind it. The Lumia 900 at $50 compared to the Titan or Focus 2 is a no brainer. Compare it to the iPhone or Android options, it still is the best choice for the price.

I also believe they are using the price break to drive sales of the newly released pink color.
