Microsoft Seadragon Mobile gets released

SeaDragon

SeaDragon

Microsoft recently announced Seadragon Mobile for the iPhone. My first though was awesome I could get this for my Windows Mobile too and went on to their website to download it but to my disappointment it was only released for the iPhone.. duh. I got it for the iPhone and its a nice little freeware app with which you can deep zoom in to images that are available through Photosynth.

According to BGR Alex Daley, group product manager for Microsoft Live Labs said “The iPhone is the most widely distributed phone with a (graphics processing unit) ” which is the reason they decided to go with an iPhone client. Will someone plz inform him that Windows Mobile does have devices like HTC Touch Diamond, Pro and HD which I believe have Accelerated Graphics support to run ” TouchFlo3D “…. If you have an iPhone head over to the App store and give it a go.

TIP: try adding “NationalGeoraphic” user to the Photosynth user name, they have a good collection of image sets

Average Cost to create a Windows Mobile device is $154

Image via newsweek.com

Image via newsweek.com

In a recent article by businessweek.com they mentioned that an average Windows Mobile gadget costs  $154 while the Android G1 cost is estimated to be $10 less at $144.  Keep in mind that this is the averagee cost of building a Windows Mobile device. Some how I dont think high end devices like the Touch HD will be close to that. What do you guys think would be the buid cost for the Touch HD ?

On a sad note they also quoted one of the pioneer developer in the Windows Mobile community Koushik Dutta ( the Windows Mobile Guru who released the Light / Accelerometer Sensor API for Touch Diamond which open up the flood gates for Accelerometer and Light Sensor applications developed by the Windows Mobile community and the much loved Klaxon alarm )

“It will be soon mostly Android,” …… “I like the [Android] phone better. It’s mostly a usability issue.”

That is not good news for the Windows Mobile Community.
