Official Epicurious App for Windows Phone

Epicurious.com is a recipes / cooking that has been around for ages and they have got recipes for any occasions from weeknight dinners to dinner parties and now you get it all on your windows phone. The app has got a simple elegant design that will help users to find what they want quite easily. Check out our impressions and video tour of the app below

When you launch the app you get a quick list menu when you can pick recipes based on these preset choices like Fast Breakfast, I can Barely Cook. You can slide across to reveal the favorites tab, shopping list, last viewed and an about page, dont worry there is a search option , which is easily accessible on the top right of all the pages. Clicking on this takes you to a selection menu when you can choose items from

1. ingredients
2. courses
3. cuisine
4. dietary
5. dish
6. occasion

The beauty of this is that you can mix and match items from these lists and the app will tell you how many recipes they have for that selection. For eg : you pick cheese and bread from ingredients the app tell you you have 166 recipes and then you slide across and pick breakfast from the course tab and then the number of recipe falls down to 11. You can also use the traditional search by keyword if if you choose to do so.

Once you pick a recipe , the app shows you a photo of the dish, a small description and serving info / rating ( if available ) . You can add it to your fav / shopping list or share it via email, there is no share on twitter / facebook in this version. You can slide across to get the list of ingredients , swipe again and you are presented with the steps involved but sadly this is displayed as a block of text , I believe breaking down this in to steps will make it look and feel much simpler. You can also read reviews by other members but the app does not allow users to log in to their account from the app so you can’t add your own review via the app.

The app seems to offer almost all of the recipes from the website, a quick search for recipes for Superbowl from season / occasion gave me the same result of 534 on both the site and app, but the mechanism to browse through the entire 534 recipes from the app is can be frustrating coz it shows you a limited number of recipes on a page and you have to keep going next ( a jump to page option could be handy in here )

A few other things like Recipe Of The Day and Wine Pairing for this Recipe, etc are missing from the app , but over all its a great start to a nice recipe app for windows phone
