Well looks like Nimbuzz has decided to call it quits for its Windows Mobile App. For those who dont know Nimbuzz is a VOIP app and mainly a chat client which is available on many platforms like iPhone, Android and up until now Windows Phone. The app allows user to access multiple 3rd party chat service from the likes of Skype, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), GoogleTalk, Twitter, Yahoo!, AIM, MySpace, ICQ, and more.. This is not the 1st developer who have stopped development for WM , Skype was one of them ( those guys even publicly declined support for Windows Phone 7 but offers a new iPhone client with 3G voice calling ). Back to the story at hand Nimbuzz had the all to familiar reason about letting go of the WM app.
due to platform limitations the application was not delivering a great mobile experience like on all the other mobile operating systems
Cant really blame them can we ?. FYI the app will only be taken down from their servers on July 1st. And if you are an existing user they will continue to offer support until the end of 2010, but no new features will be added, which means there won’t be any future update to the app.
The developers did not want to leave the users in doubt about the app on WP7. So they clearly stated that
yes, we are looking into the possibility of supporting Windows phone 7 in the future but now we are still waiting for the first devices to surface in order to make that decision.
we will see more developers dropping Windows Mobile 6.x, its only natural coz WM6.5 is well …dead or close to dead. WP7 is the future and developers will not be spending any time trying to develop for a platform that ran its course. What are your favorite WM6.x apps that you want to see on WP7 ? Mine are, in no particular order A GrooveShark Client like the one from Scilor, G-Alarm, uConvert, Google Maps and Midomi .
