Metro reimagined

The current concept will take us in the future Apollo update of Windows Phone – with bigger and higher resolution screens, that will give us more information and ways to customize. I want to see a beautiful phone with a 5″ display and 1280*800 resolution till the end of the year. And here is how I imagine it.

I asked you last week about your ideas to improve the Metro interface and I’m glad of all your comments and ideas. Actually this will become the most powerful concept ever. So I take one more day to make this possible. I hope so Microsoft to see this concept and take the best of it.

Why I like Metro – the entire interface is designed on the idea of infinite canvas, i.e. no need to have limited by the screen and simply peeled off until we get back to where we was. Beautiful. While Android and iOS are similar as interface and navigation, here in Windows Phone things are conceived from scratch. For example – home screen scrolls vertically. The entire interface of Windows Phone 7.5 is extremely convenient and thoughtful.

I personally really like the current Metro interface and the Metro Start screen, but I always think there is a ways to improve and become better and better. I guess anyone interested of Windows Phone 7 is more or less a Metro fan. So far there are not many ways to change the start menu (except for a few Homebrew tools), but they make partial changes that I do not particularly like.

✔ New lockscreen – you can choose clock size and position, type notifications and weather settings

✔ Live, active and scrollable tiles with direct control from them

✔ Three active and customizable swiping modes from every part of the screen (depends from the landscape or portrait mode) – for example swiping from the right side of the screen reveals the last notification and swiping from the bottom open all applications. Swiping from the top open a small panel with several quick settings – for Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location, Sound, Screen brightness and Screen rotation

windows phone make it useless series… people dont understand metro and creating ideas on it. i donr like windows8′s current metro ui. it feels like bad copy of wp7. and people who dont understand metro is trying to make wp7 like w8. what a joke… i hope wp7 designers are working on w8 and wp8.

Seems too busy.

I’d like OPTIONAL double wide tiles that provide direct access to media from whichever app is associated, and a page on the left for notifications and the such, but that’s about it. MAYBE a few quick toggles at the bottom of the notification screen for bluetooth, wifi, etc. This however, is too much.

I like the idea of the concept. Keep it up that way! It would be really nice if Microsoft accept some original feedback from the customers and implement it in the future OS.

Playback controls on a live tile makes no sense when the volume dropdown controls exist already. Just adds clutter and serves no purpose. How do you get to the full applist on this setup?

    Yeah that’s really bad and wouldn’t work at all unless they get rid of the hardware buttons or leave the “…” menu on every single screen. I don’t want them to get rid of the hardware buttons.

Swiping from bottom would cause you to hit the hardware buttons by accident. Not a good setup.

swiping from the bottom will be a trouble…..bcuz of the search and back buttons are touch sensetive…..

I love all those possible upgrades! I’d love for the map to have an option to avoid freeways, and a thesaurus along with the dictionary while texting. But those are little, different changes :P [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]

Look, this solution is real easy: 1. add app separators that can be named 2. Organize start screen with apps under the said separators according to content. 3. Add jump list to right side of screen in the unused space under the arrow button…the first three letters of said separators would be represented 4. Tap separator name in jump list and the start screen would automatically scroll to the apps under that heading…ex. I have 5 apps under ‘news’ separator 2/3rds downscreen, so instead of scrolling all the way down, I simply tap ‘new’ in jump list and the start screen automatically scrolls to 2/3rds of the way down to the news apps 5. make all separator names customizable because everyone would name them differently…in theory, this shouldn’t be difficult, no messy folders, all live tiles remain live, no detrimental change to start screen…I have 110 tiles on my start screen, I need to get to them easy!

I really like the new lock screen, though I think the battery and wifi, etc should stay up top where it is. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of having landscape mode in both lock screen, home page, etc. That would be amazing. The live tiles however, I think we should be able to CHOOSE whether we want them to be the larger active ones like shown in picture 3 or have the basic ones like WP7 has right now. I really like how they are very simple icons. They look very clean but having the option I think will be really refreshing and give people great cusotmization options. I really like the side and top swiping actions but the bottom swipe is a no for me. I don’t think that will go too well for anyone. The buttons will always be accidentally pressed, so maybe instead of the bottom swipe just keep it to going to your applications through the start or long pressing the search button so that you can search for, or scroll through an application; but still keeping true to the standard search button by single pressing search to give bing. Not too sure about the grouping and labelling, that seems like something a tablet would use, not a mobile phone. I think that grouping would make it too complicated. Windows Phone is all about simple and quick, so let’s keep it like that. Though I would love much more customizable settings such as being able to choose whatever theme color or turning off auto-rotate, and choosing tile layout ( I loved that idea) and especially having a brightness scroll bar ( instead of just low, med, high) would be amazing. This is really a good idea and concept. Though if these things were tweaked (to above) I think many more users would love. This would definitely knock iOS out of the water.
