Mehdoh : my new favourite Twitter client

by Saijo George on December 18, 2011

in Social,Windows Phone Apps,WP7 App Review

I used to be a Rowi user but recently switched over to Mehdoh , a fancy new Twitter client packed with features. FYI I still think Rowi is a nice client as well but out of the two I now prefer Mehdoh. so what does Mehdoh stand for .. I have no clue , perhaps the dev can let us know ?

Mehdoh is a relatively new twitter client and takes advantage of many of the cool Mango features like multiple live tile , flipping live tile , etc . You can pin individual users, or the new tweet page on to the start screen so you can launch the app straight in to the tweet compose window. Here you can send a tweet to a new user and easily add location or an image ( I did not find an option to add a video from here , you can of course add a link to a youtube video after uploading it from a 3rd part app like Social Camera ), if you add @ and start typing in your contacts username it auto-completes that field and if you start a message with a ‘ D ‘ followed by a username you can send them a direct message. All the usual stuff like character count are all included.

From the main screen you can check your timeline, mentions, direct messages and favourites with a small counter which tells you how many new ones are there in each of those tabs ( you can choose which ones are to be displayed in the app via the settings menu ) , unfortunately there is no support for lists , which is a bit of a disappointment :(. You can choose how many tweets are to be retrieved and more can be loaded as you scroll down with the click of a button.

When you open up a tweet you will see the tweet , the users profile pic username , the time / date, the client they used to post the tweet, etc. The hashtags , usernames and links are clickable. If you click on a hash-tag from here it opens up a search for that hashtag , you can add a new tweet which opens up the compose window with the hashtag pre-filled in or you can pin it to the start screen or save it ( I am not sure what the save it option does ?? ). Going back tot he original tweet we see that all the bells and whistles are included and then some : reply , retweet, save it for later ( via Read It Later / Instapaper ), report spam, along with edit and retweet and translate tweet. ( I did not see a settings options for translate so I am not sure what all languages are supported , I used a few a it translated it back to English ( the stock language on my phone ) and worked well for me. I am not sure if it can translate English to other languages , this is another question for Chris ( the developer ) if he happens to read this ).

Now on to what is one of my favourite feature context sensitive menu in tweets. With Mehdoh if your tweet has a link, image ( hosted on various image hosting sites ), video, location or even if your tweet is a reply to another tweet you will find that you can slide across a bring up a preview window which will show you the content in a preview windows where you can zoom in and zoom out of the content , if a twitter conversation exist for the tweet that can also be seen here. In most other clients you can click on them open up a new IE window and check it out but I find this small preview thingi which can be accessed via a swipe to be much more handy. ( NOTE : the video preview was a hit and miss , it has worked for me at time but at times it just says can’t play the video )

So over all a nice little twitter client and according to me well worth paying $0.99 for the full version. If I were to make a feature request this has to be it :When there is network connection , you obviously can’t send tweets, but I would love to have an option to save that tweet as a draft and automatically send it once a network connection is established.

Completely agree – brilliant app, but needs lists and drafts to be perfect. [Posted from the 1800PocketPC app]
