I’ve noticed that as both WP7 and the Windows Live network progress, I see tie-ins between the two more and more – mainly the use of facebook.
Read on to see my recent thoughts on this.
I was surprised to open up Windows Live Messenger Beta for the first time. This was because it was asking me to connect to facebook. After entering my details, it loaded up my facebook feed and to my horror I found my 415 facebook friends had appeared in my contacts. Luckily they are in a separate group, not just mixed in.
It took me a while to get used to, but today I installed the latest beta, which includes facebook chat, so having my facebook friends in Messenger now seems a lot more useful. No longer being restricted to using the annoying browser chat client is a great improvement. ( I know there are other clients out there, but its nice to have it in Messenger as many people use it already for everyday messaging )
Back onto the topic of “mobile stuff”, we know the whole facebook/live integration has happened in anticipation of Windows Phone 7, where facebook is crammed into most corners of the new OS. Having your Live account hooked up to facebook already just helps the process go a bit smoother. The phone doesn’t have to go through loads of different services to get data, its already being congregated within Windows Live for you.
Now, one thing I really want to find on Windows Phone 7 is a Live Messenger client. It would be stupid for Microsoft to not include one considering they have a pretty sexy looking client for the iPhone already.
The main thought I have had is that now they have this facebook chat integration, I think its quite likely that we will see this carried across to the mobile client in Windows Phone 7.
Facebook chat on Windows Mobile at the moment is only available through a couple of programs (I use FIM) but having it built into WP7 would be something I would find very useful.
Anyway, this is just my thoughts & ideas.

they haven’t announced anything about a messenger client for WP7, so I think it might not be something we can expect during the initial launch.
