IT managers LIKE Microsoft

And a whopping 48% of them want to standardize on the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS platform!!. The poll was run by ThinkEquity, a research and institutional investment banking services firm and the respondents were all from the US.  The range of respondents included around 100 IT managers, at the CIO, VP and Director levels from a variety of industries with a majority of companies with over 500 employees. Given the spread of people this seems like a very insightful conclusion that might enthuse Microsoft.

The point to note is that this percentage is up 4% from 3 months back and Android registered a 3% drop to 8%.

Of the factors that contributed to this gain the “strength and longevity” of the office suite was  a top response. Also adding to this is the fact that Windows Phone 8 will be much more closely aligned Windows 8 unlike earlier platforms.

Per Forrester and IDC, what could stunt this line of thought is the fact that users have specific preferences for devices – whether IT likes it or not. With the deep inroads that iOS and Android have made, this could pose a problem for WP8. Also, Windows 8 could hit a roadblock if users currently using Windows 7 have no upgrade plans. How Microsoft plans to tackle these issues is anyone’s guess.

If this is a path Microsoft wants to exploit, is this also a direction that it needs to take with its advertising? Do you think this is a viable enough market to be worth tapping?
