We take a look at some of the review for HTC Titan the powerhouse Windows Phone device from HTC. If you are after the HTC Titan Specs and Promo Video click that link and to find out what the reviewers think about it have a look below

HTC Titan : It’s Windows Phone, but not as we know it

HTC Titan in your Hands

According to the folks at techradar.com, the design of the phone lacks the wow factor but was impressed with the camera and processor

…It’s thin and curved, so it wins points for that, but overall lacks the wow factor of the hewn metal of the iPhone 4 or the sleek lines of the Galaxy S2 – Microsoft should be begging manufacturers to come up with sexier designs to help the platform flourish…. It comes with a a double LED flash for the camera – this means the range of conditions for photo taking has increased considerably and places the phone in the higher echelons of snap quality (theoretically)….it ( the processor ) seems to be able to handle everything we threw at it… the quality of the Super LCD screen is impressive – the colours are rich and the blacks deep – although as you can see in our side by side comparison, not really in the same league as the Samsung Galaxy S….Our early impressions of the HTC Titan are mixed: on the one hand, Windows Phone has taken a step forward with Mango, and the Titan is everything its name promises, with a larger screen and hefty proportions that actually fit in the hand quite well. But on the other hand, it’s nothing overly exciting to look at, bar the larger screen. A single core processor is hardly ground breaking, despite the added speed, and the functional design of the device doesn’t set our pulses racing.

HTC Titan : The biggest phone on the block

The guys from pocket-lint were impressed with the screen and build quality

If you’ve got small hands this isn’t going to be the handset for you. But by God is the screen impressive. It is bright because of the Super-LCD technology and crisp thanks to the WVGA resolution making it one of the best screens we’ve seen HTC produce….”how the devil will I get that in my pocket”?…it shouldn’t be a problem for the average jeans-wearing man. HTC has also, sensibly, opted not to include a kickstand to avoid adding extra bulk. ( I feel that was a mistake ) …. Remove the back plate, which makes up the phone’s entire back cover, and you’ll reveal a replaceable battery and a SIM slot. There is no microSD card slot for expanding on the built-in storage. The build quality, as we’ve come to expect from HTC, is very good. It’s solid, with very little flexibility in the chassis….. the processing power has helped massively. Games loaded faster, while performance showed an overall improvement… the Titan sports a micro HDMI socket , like the HTC Evo 3D, for connecting it to an external display or television ( it also supports DLNA ) but there is no near field communication (NFC), so you won’t be using this phone to pay for a sandwich any time soon….. camera lens comes with an F/2.2 aperture and a wide 28mm focal length. This means you can get more in a picture compared to previous HTC smartphones and offers some features like Burst mode ( lets you take five pictures in short succession ) Panorama mode ( automatically stitches three shots together, giving you a super-wide finished image )….The main selling point here is the sheer size of the thing. For those looking to go big, you know this will be the biggest on the block.

HTC Titan review

The folks at xxxx were impressed with the feel of the device but felt the 480×800 resolution is not doing justice to the 4.7″ screen

It merits noting that the single-piece aluminum case feels extremely sturdy and rigid, while fit and finish between it and the Titan’s internal components is simply flawless. HTC has clearly refined its production techniques and the Titan is a better phone for it….The 4.7-inch Super-LCD inside the Titan is simultaneously its biggest strength and its most glaring weakness…We found WVGA (800 x 480) inadequate for the screen size when reviewing the 4.5-inch Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch and now that we’re looking at it on a 4.7-inch phone, it feels even more so…It ( battery ) consistently lasts beyond 20 hours of regular use (Gmail with push notifications enabled, occasional browsing, photography, video capture and playback, and GPS use) and if you go easy on it, you should have little trouble going from breakfast on Monday to lunch on Tuesday without recourse to the charger…Calls made with the Titan were loud and typically crystal clear..One physical issue I encountered when making calls, which is rather inescapable with this new breed of all-screen handsets, is that the natural way of holding the phone during calls places the earpiece (positioned at the very top edge of the Titan) behind your ear. A small adaptation may, therefore, be required….

Pros:
Superb screen and robust construction
Snappy performance
Windows Phone 7.5 gets all the basics right
Cons:
Low pixel density lets down a beautiful display
Size makes for occasionally awkward handling
Marketplace lacks the app diversity of iOS and Android

According to WinRumors the device offers some nice features for incoming calls and is the best Windows Phone 7.5 on the market right now.

The TITAN feels good in the hand and does not feel heavy despite its large screen. One handed operation can be challenging at times due to the screen size but overall it’s not a regular issue….HTC has also opted to feature its attention phone software, these include:
Quiet ring on pickup – Reduce ring volume when you move the phone
Pocket mode – Increase ring volume while in pocket or bag
Flip for speaker – Turn over the phone to activate the speaker during calls
Flip to mute ringer – Turn over the phone to silence the ringer during an incoming call

These simple improvements alongside some other software tweaks make HTC’s offering a joy to use….Perhaps the most impressive part of HTC’s TITAN package is the 8 megapixel camera. The TITAN’s camera ships with a F2.2 lens, dual LED flash, and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures). The results are extremely impressive for what’s essential a camera phone…WP Bench results

CPU – 13,919 ms
Data – 20,469 ms
GPU – 1234 frames, avg: 41 F/s

compared with Samsung Focus:
CPU – 20,617ms
Data – 20,722ms
GPU – 571 frames, avg: 19 F/s

He agrees with me regarding the kick-stand but not a big fan of what HTC offers for the price tag

HTC promoted their large screened HD7 as an entertainment device, complete with kickstand to let you enjoy it’s large screen wherever, whenever. With the Titan, HTC have decided to make the screen bigger – even better for enjoying movies and videos, and even chucked in HTC Watch, a video rental service – but they’ve decided to kick out the kick stand. Not a great idea….At ~£500, the Titan is a bit underwhelming. Compared to the HTC Sensation XE, it has less RAM, less resolution, half the processing capabilities, a weaker GPU, a smaller battery, and no beats audio sound or free Beats Audio earphones. And yet, they’re both being released at the same time for around the same price. If you weren’t concerned between Windows Phone & Android, I’d say the Sensation is the much better deal. Add to the fact that HTC have toned down it’s media consumption focus by removing the kick stand and Stereo front facing speakers as seen on the HD7, the Titan isn’t that great. For the rest of us though, I’d say wait for the next top end Samsung & Nokia devices. They’re going to have the same processing power, and they’re going to have gorgeous, AMOLED and SAMOLED + screens with more manageable, less ridiculous looking screen sizes. They may even have similar cameras, and they’re going to look a darn sight better looking than the Titan’s plan, generic HTC genes. If however your eyesight isn’t that great, or you want to get your grandparents their first smartphone, the Titan is an ideal choice of phone, that’s easy to use and great to touch.

So there you have it a review round up of HTC Titan , we see mixed result .. Some feel the screen is great but other feel the WVGA resolution does not do well on the 4.7″ screen. One one review mentions the HDMI slot ( so perhaps it might not be available in all regions ) .. We understnad some of our readers have the HTC Titan , what do you guys think of it ? Plz do share your your thoughs with the rest of us .
