How to use Windows Phone LED Flash as a flashlight / torchlight

White Light 1

I am sure many of you would like to use the camera LED flash on your Windows Phone as a temporary flashlight, now there is an app in the Windows Phone Marketplace that allows users to do just that. Say hello to White Light by davepermen. You can use the app to run you screen white which is ok but if your device has a LED flash it will automatically swirch that on when the app is active ( even when its in the background ) which is amazing coz the flash gives out a better light than a simple white screen. You can toggle the screen color from black / white with a simple touch this has no effect on the LED flashlight.

Now on to some bad not so good news : The app will only work on mango devices. It might not work well on all devices but as you can see it ran without any isses on my Omnia 7 ( running Mango refresh ). I will also recomend not using the app for a long peroid of time as ( I assume ) the LED flash is not meant to be used that way, but if you want to quickly use the device as a flash light then this app is great.

wish there was something like this for the Mozart, damn Xenon flash, i’d happily trade it for an LED for pure function, though it does take awesome pictures…

dont know if it’s possible but you could ask davepermen to try and include Xenon flash :)

xenon flash doesn’t behave the same way and can’t really be supported. i stay away from those since years when buying phones, always chosing led flash for that simple reason: flashlights. i need it rather often, it’s a selling feature for me.

yet, the app should work using the screen as a light. but right now, i can’t test on “unsupported phones” if the rest of the app works fine, as my friends aren’t on mango yet.

I’m in the same boat… hopefully Xenon flash can be included soon.

lol can only show that off when I have to put the phone upside-down, it does not come to that in most of the normal app reviews

I have the same problem with my Omnia 7 is strange. It also happens with other LED light apps such as Flashlight 7!

I tried it on the Mango Refresh 2 at it worked as shown in the video, but it seems to have the same issue you guys mentioned in the official Mango version :(

There was a flashlight app available to HTC users before the Mango update. You could not run it in the background though. The led would turn off if you left the app.

…and White Light doesn’t use the LED on my HTC 7 PRO (Same phone as HTC Arrive)
guess I’m sticking with the HTC flashlight app.
