Cool App : app discovery gets a new app

Cool App is another app that gives you apps and game suggestions , we have see many apps like this on windows phone wp7applist, appflow, Marketplace Deals are 3 other ones we have come across. These apps gives you app and games recommendations. Cool App from BBQ Games is another one that falls in to this category, it claims to be a database of apps recommended by Windows Phone users.

When you launch the app you get a list of featured apps handpicked by the developer , slide across and you get some of the cool apps and keep sliding you get an apps section both of them contains useful list of apps but I am not sure how they are classified in to cool app and apps ( It would seem cool apps contains both apps / games while apps section is strictly for apps ) . Then you have the games section which gives a handy list of games for windows phone which is not limited to xbox live titles like how Microsoft does it.

The app also offers a list for users who are new to Windows Phone with their getting started tab. Digging in to the 3dot menu you get the option to share the app on social networks using the built in share feature on windows phone and you can recommend apps to the developers which they will hopefully review and and add to the app. The app does not show you the pricing for any of the listing which could be frustrating when you click through and find out the app costs much more than you expected. ( personally I did not find this , but having no price listed is a bad move IMHO )

One other thing I missed is the ability to search for apps but the devs have informed us its planned in the next version along with the ability to sort by category. They also seems to have other plans, but were reluctant to talk about them right now. But they have confirmed to us they are working on a website for CoolApps and a Windows 8 app.

Disclosure : They have featured our 1800PocketPC app in Cool Apps since we have partnered with them, but everything I said about the app in my review represents my honest opinion of the app.
