Workaround for using your CreditCard for purchasing Apps from Windows Phone Marketplace using IDswitch [ Homebrew ]May 1, 2012 | Saijo George 5
Users have had trouble in the past while trying to add their local creditcard to their windows phone primary live id account, when the primary account they use is a US based account ( and they are not from the US ) and if they happen to use this account as their primary acoount on windows phone. Now it would be a lot easier on everyone if Microsoft allows users to switch the region on their account, sadly this is something Microsoft has been reluctant to do. The folks at xda-dev does not usually take no for an answer and some of them has come up with a work around to get past this issue.
NOTE : I have not used this myself coz I hear the folks at Microsoft are always ready with the BanHammer when it comes to messing around with xbox live services. You have been warned. But if you want to head down this road jump past the break for the full step by step instruction
SMSBackup is a homebrew tool for Windows Phone that offers an easy and quick method to backup SMS on your device. The app is available for free but you need to have an interop unlocked device to run it. According to the developer first-generation interop-unlocked HTC, Samsung phones and fully-unlocked phones can run it ( If you have a Nokia you could try interop unlock ) . I have successfully run it on my Omnia 7 and the app does backup my SMS messages .. NOTE : I have not tried to restore em back .. I will try that on my next ROM flash. The app offers users the ability to back up to the device ( to the isolated store ) or external backup to your skydrive account.
Do you want to change your carrier logo that pops up when your phone boots up on rooted devices ? ( the one that comes up between the OEM logo and the Windows Phone animation when you boot-up your phone …
One of our favorite Homebrew developer Jaxbot from windows phone hacker has updated his Orientation Lock app to version 3 which have introduced the ability to pin a secondary live tile. Clicking on the secondary tile acts as a quick toggle between the orientation locked and orientation unlocked states and the tile icon will tell you if it is in locked or unlocked state. For me this app is quite handy when I want to read something in portrait mode while I am lying down.
You can download it from here
We have run you guys through a tutorial on how to create your own windows phone ringtones from your favorite music and now thanks to the work of windows phone hacker jbkkd from xda-developer we have the ability to automatically randomize your ringtones on Windows Phone. Say you have multiple custom ringtones on your device and you want the phone to play random ones when you get calls, with the homebrew app RandomRingtone it is now possible.
With Apps / games that are installed from the marketplace you automatically update the app when an update is pushed out via the Marketplace but if you are a sideloader then when the new version of the app comes out and you try to reinstall the XAP file the app is installed as a fresh copy and you lose the settings and customization but with a new homebrew app called XapHandler you can tell your phone to install the XAP as a clean install or force it to update the existing XAP.
Update : The app can also be used on unlocked stock ROM ( thanks to WP7 Root Tools ) which will enable users to sideload XAP from IE or email )
Install instruction :
- Install XapHandler
- Run XapHandler ( if you are on a stock ROM you will need to add XapHandler as trusted using WP7 Root Tools ) and hit OK.
- Exit App.
Here is an app that most people might not need but on a daily basis but once the hardware button gets stuffed then this will be an invaluable tool, Volume Slider is a homebrew app that allows users to adjust the master volume on the device. The app also has a mute button if you want to put the device on silent. The app should work on dev unlocked devices , I tried it on my Omnia7 using a custom ROM and it works well.
appSiege is a new homebrew app for Windows Phone that allows users to check the application install size and isolated storage usage for each of the apps and games installed on the phone. Granted its not something that you would want to use every day but there might be some developers in here who might find some use for it.

Once installed the app changes your lockscreen background to a choice of either Bing’s daily image or a selection of your photo’s from your various Facebook and SkyDrive albums. If you select Bing backgrounds the change happens once Bing’s image is updated. If you choose your own photo’s you must pick each photo individually, then the app will change them every 30 minutes or so by using a background task.
