Now that Microsoft has released the Windows Developer Preview ISO files , why not try it on your PC. Here is a short tutorial on how I installed it. I will try to make this as simple as possible with screenshots of most of the important steps. I am not planning to use this a lot its just to install and play around for a bit and see what all the fuss is about, so installing via a virtual machine is the best option for me.
What you need
a PC
Internet
VMware Workstation ( its Free for 30 Days ) – Head over to vmware and complete the form and you will get a 30 day license and the download link.
Windows Developer Preview ISO – you can get it here choose the one that you want. I went for Windows Developer Preview English, 64-bit (x64)
Windows Live SkyDrive is a free cloud storage service by Microsoft that offers users 25GB of storage space and then access it from anywhere from any browser but unlike dropbox you can’t just sync a folder on your PC which is a much better to getting it done ( at least for me it is ). Having a Windows Phone I started using skydrive and I was looking around for a way to sync folder on my PC to Skydrive and since most of you all will be windows phone users as well this could come in handy for you as well. Plz note that you can’t sync all file types , I was only able to sync documents using this method. Tutorial after the break.
Do you have a Dell Venue Pro on the AT&T network? Are you having trouble sending and receiving MMS? If so, there might be a fix for it, and it’s actually quite simple if you know where to go to change a single setting.
This is based on experience and it might not work for everyone. I recently bought an unlocked Dell Venue Pro to use on the AT&T network but MMS hasn’t been working. I have not been able to send or receive MMS messages. I brought it to an AT&T store, they checked their system, nothing is out of the ordinary. I called Dell support, they lead me through some setting changes with no luck. I scoured the web and made a bunch of recommended settings found on different forums to no avail. Finally I stumbled across a post from Mobility Digest with the code to get to the Diagnostic Menu.
Follow the break for detailed steps to enable MMS on the DVP for AT&T.
It looks like the RTM build of Windows Phone Mango , ( build 7720 for those of you who are keeping count of the build number, I know there are a few of you in here who does that if not we got ya covered on our Version history page ) is leaked out on xda-dev, we know this would happen but didn’t expect it to happen before the official release but with Microsoft releasing the RTM build to OEMs and certain devs the ROM as found it way on to xda-devs.
Do you like to tweet? Do you have a Mango Windows Phone device? If you answered yes to both of those questions then you are in luck.
Windows Phone Mango has a new feature that allows you to send text messages using voice recognition. And if you have setup your mobile phone with Twitter that allows texting to tweet, you can use voice recognition in messaging to say what you want to tweet and text it to the Twitter number provided to you. (Wow, that was a lot of T’s there).
