How to add your own Windows Phone SMS Alert tone

by bAN01TgAZ on January 3, 2012

in Ringtone

My one and only gripe with Mango is not being able to set an sms / email tone from my library, So having my Omnia7 device developer unlocked with InterOp unlock I was able to use tools such as ‘WP7-root-tools’ to edit the registry and use my own *.wav files for emails and texts.

For those interested goto ‘HKCU\Current User\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS\Sound’ and change to the file of your choice… I used the key from ‘HKCU\Current User\ControlPanel\Sounds\Achievement\Sound’ (\Windows\AchievementNotifyPopup.wav) and receive an achievement sound each time I get an SMS…

Want some classic Nintendo Games Ringtones on Windows Phone ? Shagware has released an app called Nintendo Ringtones that does just that. This app caught our attention after a tweet from Ben Rudolph. It lists various Ringtones from classic games like Contra 2, Final Fantasy, TMNT, Zelda, Megaman, and many more ( of course Mario is in there .. just in case you were wondering ). The application is quite easy to figure out you can preview the tone and then add it as a ringtone straight from the app .. as easy as pie. Now does the developer have the rights to put these music as ringtones I am not sure but the app has been approved by Microsoft as is available for download for FREE , I am not sure if it will last long so grab it as quickly as you can.

NokiaTune

NokiaTune

Nokia recently ran a global crowdsourcing campaign to find a fresh version of the Nokia Tune and out of the 6,200 or so entries Italian DJ Valerio Alessandro Sizzi’s Nokia Tune Dubstep Edition was crowned the winner. The 24-second dubstep-inspired version of the Nokia ringtone will probably be preloaded on to the future Nokia smartphones which should include the Nokia Windows Phone lineup that should be unveiled at Nokia World.

Personally I was not impressed by this ringtone and will never have this on my phone but that is just me. Click play to hear the ringtone

In the recently released Windows Phone 7 emulator there were some new WP7 ringtones and SMS tones and Anudeep from xda-dev has apparently extracted those tones for us to use on WM6.x devices like the HTC HD2. So if you are a fan of these check them out here. ( via Mobility Digest )

Are you feeling bored of listning to the same ringtone everytime call comes? Moreover do you feel pain at changing ringtones every other & now? Try this application & leave all your worries aside.

“With Ringtone Shuffler, every time a call comes in you here a different custom ringtone that you have put on your phone. This is a great feature when you have many custom ringtones and you want to enjoy all of them. It gets even better.

With Ringtone Shuffler, you can select the ringtones you want to shuffle. Why is this super cool? Imagine a scenario where you have created 3 ringtones from one song; that is the first verse, second verse and the chorus. Now you can select those 3 and enjoy them all.

In another scenario, let’s say you have about 20 ringtones and 5 of them are from one or a few artists you are really feeling. Now you can just select those 5 as the ones to shuffle”

MortRing

MortRing

When you get a call you can assign different ringtone for different contacts so you can easily assign important calls with a specific ring tone , family with a different one this is really useful and practical. now if you want to apply the same on to SMS there is a way thanks to MortRing a freeware pocket pc application.

After installation (ZIP file contains both PC setup and CAB for PPC installation) an icon showing a small cell phone will appear in the tray (lower right corner of the Today screen). If you tap it, a menu will open, which contains entries to open the configuration dialogs. The “SMS filter” allows you to search the sender or message text for given words, and play a special sound and/or even run a program if the search text is contained. The “play internally” options usually only make sense if you disable the system sound, and only WAV files are supported currently. The sense of this feature is compatibility with tools like phoneAlarm, which only supports one single SMS signal and ignores the one MortRing sets, or devices which ignore the registry modifications of MortRing. Sadly, the ringtone modification doesn’t work on every device. Esp. if there are lots of contacts and you’re using a pre-WM5 device, there’s a quite high risk of not working.

If you were wonder whats the app to assign ringtones based on category ( get it here or another one or how about a random ringtone app)
