comScore releases December 2011 market share report

comScore mobile analysis

comScore has released data from the comScore MobiLens service, which reports a three month period ending December 2011.

The study of over 30,000 U.S. mobile phone subscribers indicating market share for OEM manufacturers and platform.

Samsung was listed top OEM manufacturer with 25.3% market share and Google’s Android as dominant platform with a massive 47.3% share.

Windows Phone 7 going to be on all major UK carriers

Microsoft has announced in a press release that all five major mobile network operators in the UK – Orange, O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Three will carry Windows Phone 7 when it launches later this year.The press release does not give an exact date of the release but just mentions it as “later this year” . If you would rather get the device from retailers in the UK the Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U will be your best bet according to Microsoft.

Zune expands its service to more countries

Well we all knew this was going to be announced as WP7 is getting closer to a release date and now its official Microsoft is expanding the Zune Multiscreen Entertainment Services Into International Markets. Before you get all excited there are limitations to the non US market. Microsoft is planning a roll-out of the Zune music and entertainment service to more than 20 countries this fall including the U.K., France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Zune software will be updated to v4.7 which is a magic number for WP7 users coz this will bring support for Windows Phone 7, and will allow us to sync music, movies, pictures, podcasts, games and apps between PC and WP7. ( no support for Mac has been announced at this stage )

SlideUI .NET CF Mobile Controls has been updated to SlideUI 1.6.0. A full demo illustrating the new release can be downloaded at http://www.devslide.com/products/slideui/download. Below is a list of new features, improvements and fixed issues in SlideUI version 1.6:

- Memory usage for all controls reduced and drawing speeds increased.
- In the previous release of SlideUI (1.5.3), we added support for transparency for the UILabel control. In this release, transparency support was added for UIButton, UIImageButton, UISwitch, UICheckBox, UIRadioButton, UITextBox controls.

UIPages
- Implementation of new control which allows creation of pages in design or run time.

UIListItem
- Rendering optimized. Now UIListItems appearance will be faster for items inserted into UIList in design time.

UITextBox
- TextHint property added to allow showing a hint (i.e. “Enter your name”) if text value is empty.
- Issue fixed. Previously if UITextBox control was inserted into a form in design-time, and the ‘Text’ property was set to an empty string and then the form was closed / opened, the ‘Text’ property contained default value generated by the designer (i.e. UITextBox1) instead of empty string. This issue has been corrected.

UICanvas / UIList
- Aliases added: BeginUpdate (for BeginAddControls) and EndUpdate (for EndAddControls).
- Issue fixed. Previously if UIList or UICanvas was inserted inside of another container and controls were added in design time, then these controls inside of UIList / UICanvas were invisible in run-time. This issue has been corrected.
- Issue fixed. If UICanvas contains UIGroupBox control and a user starts sliding, the caption from UIGroupBox disappears. This issue has been corrected.

UIImageButton
- Additional icon positions added: IconTopLeft, IconTopRight, IconBottomLeft, IconBottomRight.

UIPictureBox
- Issue fixed. The background image did not refresh in design-time when a new image was assigned or if the value of BackgroundImageDisplay property was changed. This issue has been corrected.

UIProgressBar
- Marquee progress bar style added (new properties: Marquee and MarqueeAnimationSpeed).
