Microsoft Socl

Microsoft has recently launched their So.cl social network, the network has been active for some time and was leaked last year, but until recently had only been avaliable to beta users, the network is now avaliable to anyone interested in it. So.cl is actual an experiment from FUSE labs looking into how online searching and social networking can be used to enhance learning, and it’s this reason which explains why it is not actually aimed as a competitor for Facebook.

Yesterday we ran a rather odd looking Windows Phone 8 rumor ( read ). Most of you guys agreed that it was most likely a fan made concept and not the real deal but now a Nokia Lumia 900 advertisement on pcadvisor.co.uk ( see source link below, it might still be up ) shows some interesting Live tiles.

Some new images have cropped up claiming to be design work for a future version of Windows Phone. The folks from Insideris is claiming this will be pre Windows Phone 8. It certainly does not look like Tango. The design itself looks a bit comical with Comic Sans used for the font. A wise designer and a few guys on twitter once told me “Comic Sans” are for n00bs when I had that in the Logo. ( you all know who you are )

Our friends at wp7applist is setting up a 2012 Community App Awards event for Windows Phone Apps and Games over on their website their aim is to to put the spolight on the very best apps available in the Windows Phone Marketplace and they need your help to do this, head over to their website and nominate what you think are the best apps available on windows phone. The event is split up in to 2 phases first nominations, then voting. Apps can be nominated in two ways: from a member of the committee or from users nominations. Apps that have the most nominations from users on May 26th are qualified from voting, and EACH app nominated by the committee is automatically qualified!.

Microsoft SkyDrive has recently been getting quite a lot of attention with the release of the SkyDrive app for Windows Phone as well as iOS, and Windows and Mac (Laptop/Desktop), they’ve also introduced paid storage tiers, where you can pay an annual fee for additional storage. It looks like this hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Anyone logging into Google Docs will notice a notification bar along the top of the screen informing users that ‘Google Docs will soon be upgraded to Google Drive’.

While many may be frustrated by this obvious copy of the name from Microsoft’s SkyDrive, it’s actually a very good sign, it means SkyDrive is gaining enough traction for Google to consider it strong enough competition to change their name to better compete against SkyDrive, though I’m sure Google’s Public Relations would have you believe its been in the words for some time.

This article is all about me, no it’s not because I’m obsessed with myself, it’s because as a first article I’d been told that I’d probably be best to introduce myself. The hardest part was thinking of a title, I decided on having my Nickname followed by my most recognisable personal attribute, the result was the title above.

I’m 20 years old and am currently completing my bachelor’s degree in IT majoring in Business Information Systems Management. My first job was actually as an assistant to a Network Administrator, thus began my passion for IT (which incidentally was when I first discovered that my potential was Microsoft’s passion). I started university at 18 after finishing High School (that’s normal in Australia for those reading this in the US). In my first year of university I managed to score a position as a contractor at News Limited where I worked over the holidays.

Moving on I’m also a Microsoft Fan boy, I’m the person who was using Bing when everyone thought it stood for Because It’s Not Google (it doesn’t in case you were wondering). Unlike other Fan boy’s… Apple (cough) I don’t have a hissy fit at the thought that everything Microsoft does isn’t perfect, in fact I really enjoy discussing competing products with people to see other perspectives. So that’s a little about me, if I typed this right I’ll seem like a pretty nice guy, otherwise my bad I’ll try harder I promise.
