MWC 2012
With today wrapping up the 2012 Mobile World Congress, there are no more surprises left to uncover. A month’s worth of rumors, stabs in the dark, and wishful thinking can be laid to rest and we can begin discussing what it is we learned at the MWC regarding WP and 2012. There was some good news, ”could have done without” news, 2 new devices, and even an announcement of a long awaited app that made its way to the WP Marketplace during the trade show. Microsoft have expanded their MarketPlace to an extra 5 countries; The new territories are Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines, which makes 41 countries so far with the official Marketplace, which developers in those regions can now submit apps and games.

I received an E-Mail today from a developer that was forced to create an app for the Windows Phone because Microsoft didn’t have a MarketPlace available in his home country of Slovakia. I’m happy the new program was sent to us to test and review and that Saijo assigned me the job to do the review, because I really love it, It’s called wAppStore and its available for PC and Windows Phone, it can be compaired with Microsoft’s own Marketplace, only with loads of excellent features.

Nokia Collection in Marketplace U.S.
If you live in the U.S. and own a Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 800 or Lumia 710, you may have noticed that Microsoft has added the Nokia Collection to the category list, which contains the Nokia apps that come pre-loaded on your handset. The apps include, Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Music, ESPN etc, should you have to factory reset your handset, or are simply flashing a new ROM, you can redownload the Nokia apps from the marketplace.

Fake Chrome app in Marketplace
The Windows Phone Marketplace should be free from fake apps that claim they are the genuine article, there was a fake spotify app pulled a few weeks back and it seems this one should be pulled aswell.

If you looking for the number of active apps in the marketplace it’s hard to get an exact number. The official marketplace does not give any info on the number of apps / games available for Windows Phone. But thankfully there are quite a few marketplace browser sites like wp7applist.com , marketplacebrowser.com and more that offers some insight in to this data, but sadly each of them offers a different figure so there is no real telling what the actual numbers are.
Microsoft does occasionally throw out the numbers regarding the apps in the Marketplace from time to time ( usually during some show where they are presenting about Windows Phone ). If I am not mistaken Steve Ballmer does confirm the number of apps in the Marketplace as over 50,000 during CES2012

Well it’s not apps they are after, they want games ( read they are more interested in games ) at least according to the inforgraphics shared by Microsoft. With Free app games has got 31% of user interest followed by Tools and productivity at 18% . With Paid apps an incredible 64% of downloads come from the games category while only 8% seem to download Tools and productivity apps which is the second most sought after category !!!
