Sadly all app store / Marketplace is judged by the number of apps they offer than by the quality of apps they offer, it’s the same for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone. We have covered the issue with crApps and Microsoft has made some adjustments to prevent such apps from flooding the marketplace but sadly that is not preventing these so called developers from adding useless apps to the marketplace. Today we take a look at the developer who goes by the name of Apps&Entertainment who has a few apps on the marketplace and 4 of them are essentially the same app but in different languages ??

We have seen software like wAppStore that allows users to install other OEM specific apps , so say you want to install Samsung only apps on HTC devices, Nokia apps on LG, etc. But previously these used to be restricted to being deployed from the PC, but not any more ( for the brave ).

A new hack discovered by GoodDayToDie on xda-dev , allows users to install OEM specific app store with a simple XAP installation. Select which app store you want , download the xap put it on your phone and you now have that OEM’s store in your Marketplace. This will REPLACE the existing OEM store from your phone. LG, Nokia, Samsung and HTC stores are available at the moment.

MetroTube

MetroTube

One of the hugely popular youtube client on windows phone .. Metrotube will be pulled down from the marketplace on 1st Jan 2011. The developers have also mentioned that the apps ( Metrotube and LazyWorms Youtube App ) should remain functional for those who have already installed them however we will be unable to push out any further updates and the app will also not be available for download after the 1st of Jan. Metrotube has got an average of 4.7/5 from over 850 reviews across the globe and we will definitely miss the app :( . Good luck to the devs Mike & Atta in the future projects .

So why did they decide to pull the app ?

GelaSkins Windows Phone

[ No Carrier Billing Image :( ]

Deutsche Telekom now offers the Nokia Lumia devices for 4.95 Euro per month according to their press release. Good news if you are looking to get one , the first 20,000 devices will also get a 50€ gift card for app purchases via the windows phone marketplace and a new feature will also be available for users on the network – Carrier Billing. So now you don’t have to provide a credit card info to buy apps and games you can charge it directly to your phone bill. Notice anything else from the press release worth mentioning ?

Thanks for the Tip Fabian ( that too via our App , it’s nice to see more users using the app )

A little while ago we told you guys about Phone7Market, now there is an alternate software for homebrew devices that will allow users to download and install XAP files directly from the Marketplace and sideload them to your device. So if you live in a country where the Windows Phone Marketplace is not available, you can try using this method to install apps to your device.

ScrollMotion

ScrollMotion

I would like to tell you a tale, very sad tale at that. I remember yesterday like it was yesterday. It was a nice day outside, classes went well and I had no cares in the world. Before turning in for the evening I decided to treat myself to a brief glimpse into my Windows Phone Marketplace to peruse and download to my liking. Suddenly I was stricken, stricken by grief, sadness and on what can be described as a ghastly horrible disappointment. What was that disappointment you might ask? Not one, not ten but hundreds, that’s right, HUNDREDS of books published in my wonderful world of applications by one ScrollMotion. It begs the question. How exactly did this happen?

It looks like the Windows Phone Marketplace has been rolled out and users can see the online web interface for Marketplace by going on to windowsphone.com. The interface is quite simple and offers Features , Apps , Games on the main page. Going in to Apps / Games will bring up the sidebar with the Category navigation. You can also sort by Featured, Free, Top, New and xbox Live ( in games ). The apps / games are represented by the logo along with the star rating system , Number of Ratings and the Price in local currency. You can also send yourself an email with instruction to download or add your mobile number on the site and the app gets installed automatically on your phone, with no input need from you.

AVG Scanner for Windows Phone 7

AVG Scanner for Windows Phone 7

It makes me wonder as to why would Windows Phone 7, considered to be one of the most stable OS, would even need an antivirus app ! Turns out folks at AVG didn’t digest this fact yet, coming out with a Windows Phone 7 version of the new AVG  Antivirus App. Brandon Watson, Microsoft’s director of developer experience for Windows Phone, confirmed  in a tweet recently stating the app had been removed based on research done by two external experts after which the company started its own investigation.
