I was at The Big Picture Experience Melbourne, where Microsoft showcased a wide range of products and services they offer in Australia. The event took place at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre : Bays 5 & 6 on Wed 23 Nov from 9:00 AM. The idea behind the event was to allows guests to experience first-hand six powerful scenarios set in the worlds of business and the home. From a consumer point of view its a great event to get to know all the new toys Microsoft has in the Market and a few early glimpse of what to expect in the future.

I was in to the Modern home and World of Devices section where all the fun stuff like xBox and Windows Phones were showcased. There were lot of stuff to go through if you are interested in Microsoft technology or if you are in the Market to buy a new piece of tech from Microsoft or their partners but if you are an enthusiast and wanted to see what is next it was a bit of a disappointment.
I got the chance to meet some fellow Windows Phone enthusiasts from Australia Sheeds ( the owner of WPDownUnder ) and a Windows Phone Developer Garry Holden ( check out his FREE app WOW Companion )
Ever wanted to check out the cool new tech gear Microsoft has to offer ? If you happen to be in Sydney / Melbourne it looks like you can. The event titled ” The Big Picture Experience ” will be an open to all event and promises a hands on approach to the new tech.
Microsoft Australia has just announced voice control for Kinect along with Zune Music Pass subscription service , according to gizmodo.com.au.
Zune Music pass will launch on November 16 at $11.99 per month or $119.90 annually and will most likely be the same model as the service which was announced in Canada, and can be used on Xbox 360, Windows Phone, Windows PC, Zune devices and Zune.net.The plan will provide unlimited, on-demand access to more than 14 million songs and will not include 10 MP3s to keep each month. (Unlike the previous Zune Music Pass offering which was limited to US ). It looks like Music Video will also be supported ( according to @longzheng who is attending the event). Microsoft’s also announced voice control for Kinect today.
Steve Guggenheimer Corporate Vice President, Original Equipment Manufacturer Division was presenting some of the new hardware at Sydney Uni ,the event is being tweeted with the #newpcs tag. Amongst various hardware that were showcased some Windows Phone devices also came up . The Fujitsu IS12T , HTC Radar were showcased which indicates that these devices could be hitting Australian Carriers soon ( our speculation ) and there were also speculations of Nokia coming to Telstra ( via ). In regards to the Samsung Focus S or the Omnia W or the HTC Titan we have not picked up any chatter if and when they will hit the Aussie Market.
@Windows7AU plans to release some pictures of the new devices on their facebook page later today, which should give us a better idea of what windows phone mango devices to expect from the Australian Carriers. Which device are you most excited about ? It’s the Titan / Nokia for me ( it will be hard to say goodbye to the super duper AMOLED gorilla screen on my Omnia 7 )
Are you a developer in Melbourne ? Microsoft Australia is having a Windows Phone Developer Workshop session that is aimed to make developer’s life easier when it comes to developing apps / games for the new Mango ( Windows Phone 7.5 update ). The workshop will be predominantly hands-on with a short talk introducing each topic. You will also have the opportunity to review you own projects with a team of experts over the course of the workshop.
we did see that Microsoft was quietly testing Music and Podcast in Australia , I noted that I can now subscribe to audio and video podcast using Zune and can easily sync it with my Windows Phone. Unfortunately the marketplace does not offer the podcast tab and so you can’t browse for Podcasts via the marketplace but you can easily add a new podcast using the podcast feel URL. This was tested on Mango Refresh and Zune 4.8.2345
